Description: Ceyln resort is situated at 2000m above sea level and is about 2 hours from the airport. It is also centrally located between Kota Kinabalu headquarters and various other attractions. We took a taxi directly from the airport to the resort and were charged RM$200 one way. The ride was scenic and we soon felt our stress melting away as we neared the mountains.
Ceyln resort boasts chalets with two views, mountain i.e. Mount Kinabalu and Valley. We chose the former and paid about RM$600 for 3 nights for a twin-sharing room. This included daily buffet-styled continental breakfast at the resort restaurant in the main building. The staff were friendly and helpful. Following a quick discussion with the local staff there, we booked our transport with the resort for our day trips to the nearby attractions after checking in.
The rooms were spacious and clean. Our door was a sliding glass panel with a view of Mt Kinabalu and the nearby farms. Mt Kinabalu however did not show itself until the second day when the clouds cleared in the morning. In fact, the best time to view Mt Kinabalu seemed to be in the early morning before the clouds rolled in and covered its peaks. The down side of having a room with a view is the lack of privacy. We discovered that if we do not draw the curtains, guests walking past our chalet would be able to see the inside of the room clearly. Another downside to the room is the small. cramped bathroom and the constant loud humming of the generator below our room.
The resort was pretty basic with only one restaurant offering a limited menu of local and Western dishes and an outdoor BBQ area for those who chose to have BBQ for dinner. Rain posed a problem for guests who chose to dine at the restaurant as the chalets and the main building were not linked by any covered walkway, we found ourselves stuck at the lobby after dinner one night.
There was not much else to do in the resort after sun down and dinner except to surf the TV channels or to sleep. This suited us since we were there to basically catch up on our sleep and to unwind. The best thing about this resort were the views that the rooms provided. To wake up to the majestic sight of Mt Kinabalu and the sea of clouds covering the valley was simply awe-inspiring.
