From its dark lobby to its eerie hallways, this hotel is a must stay at. It has the appeal of a haunted house, but I dont think there are actually any ghosts. Its rumored to be haunted, so if you are looking for a cheap thrill and place to sleep, you've found it at the Ben lomond.
The hotel was formerly known as The Bigelow Hotel and was constructed in 1927. In 1933 the building got a new owner, and with it a new name, The Ben Lomond Hotel. It is named after the Ben Lomond Mountain.
Early in the hotels life, it was used as a boarding house and during the period of prohibition, tunnels were constructed under it for smuggling alcohol. More often than not, alot of crime was committed in this hotel.
One of the hauntings occur in room 1102. A woman was on her honeymoon, and somehow ended up drowning in her bath tub. Guests have mentioned on several occasions of the water turning on by itself and them feeling themselves being physically pushed by a spirit...
After the incident the womans son came to collect her belongings, and was permitted to stay in the room to gather up her things, and it is said that he became very depressed, and he decided to take his life that night in that room. People who stay there say at night they can hear them talking to one another..
Staff often report that at night, the elevators move up and down on their own, opening at the lobby and going up to the tenth floor and remaining there for a long period of time. The elevators need to be operated from inside, and cannot be accessed from staff.
My overall experience was not so spiritual. It was a normal stay. But it is definatly worth the 105.00 for the weekend night.
