A Much Needed Break

An April 2002 trip to Virginia Beach by gypsywoman02

After a heavy tax-season, I felt that my boyfriend needed a getaway. I booked us in Virginia Beach, VA. A 7 hour drive to talk, sing, and relax. After our fantastic week away, he is already asking where we can go next!

On our first day we took a 1 hour drive to Colonial Williamsburg, his first time - my 5th. It was a great day as we strolled down the main road and mailed postcards from the Colonial Post Office. We took two tours on the Carrie B in Norfolk. Tuesday we did the inner harbor area, but Wednesday we did the 2.5 hour Naval Base tour. Fantastic, knowledgable guide. Great tanning opportunities on the top deck.

One evening we went to Mahi Mahi's to hear the live music on the boardwalk, where we (I) danced. Then went in for some great sushi. If you love seafood, Don't forget to go to Captain George's on Laskin! WOW!

Quick Tips:

It's great to have a week where you can alternate days of sightseeing, with leisurely days poolside and in the hot tub.

Best Way To Get Around:

A car is a must if you want to visit the outlying areas, but to stay in Virginia Beach itself, two strong legs will take you where you need to go.

We stopped in to escape the rain and have a quick drink. After browsing the menu we decided to share appetizers of calimari and a shrimp cocktail. It was so good and brought out so promptly that we decided to stay for dinner. A large portion of blackened-tuna ceasar salad and a Black Diamond steak with sugar pea pods were fantastic.

The tuna was a large perfectly cooked tuna steak, and my steak was done just the way I like it, as requested. Friendly, personable service made this a night to remember.
