Overview

We stayed at The Inn at Horseshoe, a part of the Horseshoe Valley Resort in Barrie, Ontario Canada. The inn is a cozy 2 level building at the base of the ski slopes. We had a 2 bedroom with a fireplace. The inn provides firewood and a starter kit enabling you to have a nice fire each evening. The challet next door offers ski and snowboarding rental, along with a ski school. There's also a restaurant in the chalet when you need to take a break from the slopes. There are a dozen lifts on the mountain taking you to beginner to advance slopes. We visited during spring break which was at the end of their winter season. What an excellent time to go skiing! The weather was great, the snow in abund...Read More

Best Things Nearby:The ski runs are right outside your door along with ski & snowboard rental. The downhill tube run is less than a 5 minute walk beside the units. The close proximity of skiing & tubing make these the best things nearby...no need to worry about driving & finding parking!Best Things About the Resort:The 2 bedroom units are very spacious - large master bedroom with full bath, 2nd bedroom has 2 twin beds with another bath, full kitchen with dinette, full dining room, living room with fireplace and screened in balcony overlooking the slopes (this is the building across the parking lot from the main lobby/hotel units building). The staff is extremely ...Read More

Restaurant | "Skylon Tower"

Quote:
The Skylon Tower is equipped with a revolving restaurant and glass elevator to reach the top. For those just wanting to take the elevator to the observation deck, there is a charge of $9.50/adult and $5.50/kids. Even if you have reservations at the restaurant, you still have to pay to ride the elevator, which is $2.00 per person. The menu consists of steak and seafood with a high pricetag, which they can get because of the wonderful view of Niagara Falls from every table. The rotating restaurant is wrapped in glass for easy viewing of the falls. It takes the restaurant one hour to make a full rotation, so you'll have time to view the entire area during your dining experience. The t...Read More

Restaurant | "Silks Fine Dining"

Quote:
If you enjoy fine dining, Silks will be a restaurant you will enjoy. The menu offers a wide selection of entrees and scrumptulous desserts. However, if you're a steak and potatoes person, this might not be the place for you. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting and the waiters/waitresses are pleasant and friendly. As with most fine dining establishments, if the kids don't like waiting and sitting around the table for long, you might want to drop them off at the Go West Grill and just you and your spouse enjoy an evening together at Silks.

CN Tower

Attraction

Quote:
The CN Tower in downtown Toronto is the tallest free standing structure. For between $11-$16 (depending on your age) you can take a ride to the Look Out and Glass Floor areas. Glass floor, that's right. If you dare, you can walk across the floor of glass which looks straight down upon the street and parking lot below! It's quite frightening but kids love it. I had to be pulled out onto the glass but I can say I did step on it! The lookout area is outside and goes around the structure. There is netting up from the railing stretching upward which makes you feel more secure than the glass floor inside does! It does provide quite a view of the city of Toronto.

Cross Country Skiing at Horseshoe

Attraction | "Horseshoe Valley Ski Resort"

Quote:
Nice, uncrowded skiing. However, since it was the end of the season, not all of the slopes were open so I can't comment on every slope. However, over half were open along with the half pipe tube for snowboarding. There are various sizes of lifts, some 2 seaters and some 4 seaters. It was our kids first time skiing/snowboarding so they took the ski school. Instructors were great - taught them a lot and were patient. After one lesson, we were off and running! We are not experts in skiing so I can't comment on how these slopes would rate with a great skiier. But I can recommend this for those with beginner to intermediate skills.

Attraction | "Thunder Valley Tube Run"

Quote:
This tube run is exhilarating! There are 4 side-by-side, icy, steep tube runs. To get to the top, sit in your tube, grab the rope and hang on! Once at the top of the runs, there are workers standing at each one. You can either be sent down alone or with someone elses tube. Both are fun, but it doesn't seem as frightening the first time down to go with someone else! You each sit in your own tube and put your legs on the other tube to hook yourselves together. When asked by the worker if you want to be spun, say NO on your first time! But they'll spin you anyway if you have family members standing behind you telling them to spin you! It's bad enough going down the hill for the first time, but t...Read More

I remember visiting Niagara Falls as a child and was in awe at the size of the falls. Returning as an adult, the falls sure seemed bigger when I was smaller! The falls are a wonderous beauty, however. The time of year we visited made it a little unbearable because it was so cold. On the Canadian side, the mist is fairly heavy at the outdoor viewing area. From the U.S. side, we didn't notice any mist and were able to get right up to the falls as the observation area runs directly beside the water. From this side you can also climb up an observation deck that goes out over the water a bit. Since it was winter, the Maid of the Mist boat rides and the outdoor paths up the side of the fal...Read More
