This is second year in a row we visited Hawaii. We never believed we could become so enamored by a vacation destination. We don't regret buying in Hawaii at all. We will always feel at home every time we return.

Hawaii Shores

Overview

A tradition we started the first time out and will continue forever - get off the plane, drive to Lahaina, and eat a hamburger at Hamburgers in Paradise. After 12 hours on a plane what a better way than to sit in the open sea air of Hawaii and feast on one of their burgers and a cold iced tea. However, carry some shorts in your carry-on. You sure get the looks walking down Front Street in long pants!

Our first tour was a bus to Hana. How exciting to see all the different climates and vegetation; a good way to get a history of the island. Then, we were on our own. A short drive from sea level to the top of Haleakala. What a view! We finally got on the water our second time there. A sailboat ride to snorkel with the turtles and then to Molokini. All those colorful fish, wow! Another drive is north out of Kaanapali Beach, where we stay, to the end of the wide road. Don't go any further, it's a one lane road on the side of the mountain. The view of the north shore is breathtaking. And there is still more to see.

Quick Tips:

A walk down Front Street in Lahaina is a must if you go to Maui. It is like most tourist streets, but it is still neat to see all the art and things to buy. If you are passing through Kahului, where you land, visit the Iao Valley. If it is not raining, there is a nice trail for walking. The mountains go straight up.

Want something less expensive? Are you into plants? South of Wailuku is the Maui Tropical Plantation. Swimming is free. Swim with the locals just south of Lahaina or on the north shore a few miles east of Kahalui. Got money? Try Mama's Fish Shop near the beach I just mentioned. I think that's the name. It looks high class, but the visitor's channel rates it a must if you are in Maui.

Need a drive? Head south out of Kehei as far as you can go. There are some nice beaches and you wind up in the middle of the latest lava flow. It is something you never see on the mainland. Have fun!

Best Way To Get Around:

You need a rental car. Public transportation is almost non-existent.
