Overview

If you are an active vacationer, I highly recommend doing some kayaking by the Andaman Coast. You can get a closer view of the limestone cliffs, explore semi-submerged caves, and paddle through mangroves which has some of the most amazing scenery. While in this part of the country, I would also recommend doing some beach/island hopping near Ko Phi Phi. These beaches are some of the most beautiful beaches I've seen as of yet.Quick Tips: One of the best advice I can give about traveling in Thailand is to try to avoid going there in the summer season. It was tremendously hot when I went in end of March. I can't even imagine how hot it would in the summer.Best Way To Get Around: If you ...Read More

Hotel | "Laughing Gecko - a place to stay in Krabi"

The Laughing Gecko was my favorite lodging during my trip. It's a family-run place that is very cozy and a true home-away-from-home experience. The couple that operates the bungalows are very sweet people. There is a communal hall area, where you can dine or simply hang out and chat with other travelers. The bungalows are traditional Thai style huts, with a camp feel to it. If you are looking for budget accomodations with warm hospitality and an organic experience, this is the place.

Hotel | "Chao Koh Phi Phi Lodge"

I stayed at a bangalow which cost around $12-$14 per night. Overall, Chao Koh Phi Phi Lodge was inexpensive and did the job. Accomadations can be very cheap in Thailand but expect to get what you pay for. The bangalow was very basic and simple. It had a queen bed, a private bathroom and a ceiling fan. When selecting your accomadations, I would advise on checking out the rooms beforehand if possible. Some of the places I saw were very dumpy and not worth the discounted price. Also, compare and check out different places if time permits. Sometimes, spending an additional $3-$10 can get you a much nicer place.

If you love water-sports and nature/ecology, this activity is a must. This was an unforgettable experience for me. I signed up for a day trip through the inland and magrove (Bor Thor)with Sea Canoe Thailand. The package includes transportation, rental, and lunch and snacks. You paddle through the mangroves and semi-submerged caves which lead you inside the limestone cliffs/mountains. The view inside these enclosed pools are spectacular. It's well worth the physical effort.

Hiking/Climbing by Rai Leh Beach

Attraction

The Krabi region is known for their majestic limestone rocks and cliffs, which lends itself well for climbing ethusiasts. However, if you are like me and get a little queasy at the thought of strapping on harnesses and climbing rocky cliffs, there's a hike you can do that'll give you a taste of climbing without the fuss. When you are facing the shore of Rai Leh beach, veer left towards the base of the limestone cliffs. You'll see bunch of rock climbers gearing up at the base. Turn right and follow the side trail. This will lead you to the head of a hiking trail that takes you to Princess Cave. Inside this cliff is a hidden lagoon called the Holy Princess Pool. This hike is an advanced hike that g...Read More

Phi Phi Islands/Maya Bay

Attraction | "Ko Phi Phi"

Phi Phi Islands/Maya Bay Photo, Ko Phi Phi, Thailand

One thing that is great about visiting Ko Phi Phi is that you can check out some of the best beaches around. There isn't a whole lot to do on the island itself. However, you can sign up with one of the local tour operators and spend the whole day visiting various beaches/coves and some of the smaller islands around Ko Phi Phi. The itinerary may vary slightly depending on the tour operator. On my trip, I got to see the Viking Cave, Pi-leh Cove, Loh Samah Bay, Maya Beach, Monkey Beach, and Bamboo Island. Pi-leh Beach and Bamboo Island were my favorites. Maya Bay is the famous spot where the movie "The Beach" was filmed. This was completely over-rated. It was difficult to even see the beach because...Read More
