A cheap Ryanair flight from the UK and the city was all mine for the weekend. Interested primarily in Joyce and the Ulysees landmarks I stumbled upon a city that, though not too different from a similarly sized English city on the surface, was a another world beneath.

The Ulysees walk, taking in the Joyce Museum, Sweeny's the chemists, Trinity College and naturally a number of bars, is a must for anyone who has managed to get through the masterpiece. The Guinness factory at St James' Gate, with a free pint of the black at the end, was somewhat jolly, and the newly installed Francis Bacon Studio at the Hugh Lane Galley is a must for art lovers. Best of all, Kilmainham Gaol, a fascinating building with a museum to crime and punishment and a story of the Irish Republic.

Quick Tips:

Travelling from the UK - check www.ryanair.com, for a cheap deal. My return flight cost just 23 pounds!

Best Way To Get Around:

The public transport in Dublin is excellent, however, I recommend walking as the best way to get around. You'll miss so much otherwise, and there is no better way to take in the atmosphere of the city than to wander off the main streets.

Four Courts Hostel

This building was almost wasted as a hostel. I woke on my first morning and sat for some time on the end of the bed watching the Liffey flow by my window. This tall Georgian building has been beautifully fitted and has all the facilities the discerning traveller could wish for. Brimming with character and with friendly staff at a decent price. Add this to the prime location (just around the corner from Christ Church) and i couldn't give a higher recommendation.
