The highlights on each Island are different. The clubs on Mykonos, the sunsets on Santorini, the beaches and of course the food!

Quick Tips:

Some of the islands have water shipped in. Travelers should be prepared for some of the lavatory services that are offered.

Best Way To Get Around:

On the islands, renting a scooter is the best way to get around. If you cannot drive a scooter then a bus or taxi is the alternative. There is a lot of walking so bring comfortable shoes.

Hotel | "The Hotel Aegean"

The Hotel Aegean
The Hotel Aegean was a find! This 20-some room hotel is built into the side of a cliff overlooking the Aegean sea for spectacular views. It offers a swimming pool with cocktail bar, Double and Single rooms with TV, telephones, and private bath. The rooms are spacious and immaculate. All rooms have a terrace or patio. They are decorated in a wonderful bright white and blue. There are only a few rooms with a queen size bed. Most are two doubles placed side by side. Be sure to ask. The staff go out of there way to give you personal attention. Each morning starts you off with a breakfast buffet of cereals, cheeses, meats, muffins, fruit and yogurt. The hotel is in walking distance to the town of Mykonos, which is the port. Ask for one of the rooms on the top floor, as they offer the best views and privacy. The friendly owner, Dimitris, wants you to have a great stay.

Beautiful Sunsets
This Hotel is marvelous. They have a web site to look at if this doesn't convince you. http://www.athina-studios.gr They are a bit pricey but well worth it. The service is outstanding and you cetainly feel pampered. Breakfast is included and will be brought to your room or terrace after your request. The studios are attractively decorated and each has a kitchen and private bath. Even when the well stocked mini bar/refrigerator is running low, just call and you will be served whatever your beverage of choice is. Built into the dramatic cliff side of Caldera, the sunsets are truly awesome. It is within walking distance to many restaurants and bars. The Athina also offers a cliffside pool, air conditioning, hair dryer and daily maid service. There are only nine studios so a call ahead is recommended.

Volcano RestaurantBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

This was one of the best local restaurants in the town of Fira, Santorini. The atmosphere was very home-like. Many residents were dining here with their familys. The wine and rolls were hidden in a cabinet behind one of the tables, which added to the home like experience. Can you pass me a roll please? The food was good, offering the traditional Gyros and other dishes. The chicken special is recommended.

Elia BeachBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Elia is a very quiet beach with white soft sand. For those who wish to have some privacy or a relaxing day this is a good choice. Nudism is accepted on this beach. To get there one must take a bus or a scooter. The scooter is recommended as it is a nice scenic ride along the Ano Mera road.

Paradise BeachBest of IgoUgo

Attraction

Paradise Beach is a very large tourist spot. This makes for a very crowded beach. Not for the shy or bashful as there is much nudity on this beach. It has beautiful views of the mountains that surround the beach. You can take a boat ride to the next cove of Super Paradise from here.

These famous windmills are located at one end of the town on top of a hill overlooking the town and sea. You can walk up to them from the town. Visit the nearby Folk Museum that they are part of. The museum is set in a sea captain's mansion. Look for the stuffed Pelican in the museum as well as the live Pelican that wanders around the Port.

The Town of Mykonos has many sides to it. You can wander around the narrow white alleys for hours and not see the same thing. It may take you a while to figure out where you are. One might think to leave bread crumbs to find their way out. But the cats would eat them any way. There are a lot of cats. We found one restaurant and then when wanting to return could not find it. It is a maze! We stumbled upon it by accident the next day. We would sit on the curbs with the local residents. After dinner the residents would all sit outside and talk and watch as the many tourists passed through their alleys. To really enjoy the town, eat in a restaurant in little Venice, visit a night club in an alley, then sip a nescafe on the water front and look for the Pelican. What better way to spend an evening.

Story/Tip

Scooter
Scooter rental on the Island of Mykonos is the preferred way to get around. A very friendly and knowledgeable rental office is Rent A Star, a stones throw from the Hotel Aegean, in front of the Port. The office number is (0289) 27711
