It has to be admitted that Milazzo owes most of its visitors to its being the port for the Aeolian Islands, and such is the plethora of beautiful towns and natural sights on Sicily that this will probably remain true.
Yet when one strolls around it, more or less perforce, it is an attractive and interesting town, though marred by some smelly and unsightly indutry nearby. The citadel, which is largely a remnant of the time of Spanish supremacy is formidable and impressive from a distance although I did not use my limited energy getting up to it.
It is a lively port and the evening walkabout seems to give more cheer than in some other towns.
It is possible to eat well and cheaply in a couple of self-service cafeterias at the opposite end of town to the port.
