When in Venice!!Best of IgoUgo

Overview

Venice is among one of the most romantic destinations in the world. A city where the everyday hustle and bustle of life is replaced with drifting gondolas, grand canals and new romantics, Venice is a city like no other.

Marvelling at the Doge's Palace, soaking up the sun in St. Marks Square and sipping a Bellini in Harry's bar are all must-do's, but don't forget to take time out to explore the unexplored.

Osteria La ZuccaBest of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Recommended in the Lonely Planet guide, this small but intimate restaurant is more modern in style and serves fantastic food and wine.

The wine list is extensive (the house white wine is great) and the food is inspired. There are the usual pasta dishes to choose from for starters (spaghetti, lasagne, etc.) and a hearty selection of meats for the main course, but it is the side dishes which make this restaurant worth recommending. These consist of mediterranian vegetables cooked in the most unusual and interesting ways. We had creamy potatoes with cheese, leeks and aubergines which were all fantastic. The second courses are a bit limited for vegetarians - risotto was the only real option - but given the size of the first courses (of which many are vegetarian) and side dishes, a first course with one or two side dishes is ample food for anyone.

I had beef steak whilst my partner had asparagus lasagne and with a half litre caraffe of white wine to wash it all down, the bill came to no more than 30 Euros. A truly wonderful restaurant and a great experience.

Tips and Suggestions: The menu is only available in Italian, so unless your Italian is good or you have an Italian phrase book, you may struggle to understand the menu. Neither of us can speak Italian but we survived because the waiters are fantastic and explained everything that was on the menu to us. They would undoubtedly do the same for you. If you enjoyed your meal, leave a hearty tip as restaurants of this quality and affordability in Venice are hard to find.
