2 nights in a Black Hole

An August 2001 trip to Mendocino by Nick & Suzy

Quote: A two week journey to Monterrey and Wine Country was wonderful (Santa Rosa Journal to come), except for our accomodations that not only misled you on their web site, but was worse than anything in my life other than a tent in Korea.

The web site indicated that you could walk across a field to the ocean. Wrong! First you had to cross busy Highway 1. The place is on a corner where the log trucks turn and grind uphill. Incredible noise all the time, and then add dogs, children, etc.

But the worst was inside. We had what was called a "barn suite." Ha! Dark, almost no lights, no window that opened, no closet, no place to put anything in the bathroom, no night stand and on and on. It was damp and gloomy with the lack of ventilation, and the only source for any heat was an electric fireplace. To call this a suite is an insult and a joke all in one.

But, the breakfast was pretty good.

A little pricey but the lamb and the view made up for it. The place is high above the ocean and river and there is a really neat bridge to watch. Very busy, a number of larger groups but fun and a good place to people watch, too.

Funky, wonderful place. Sat on the enclosed back porch overlooking nice gardens. Service was excellent and the food was perfect and not too pricey. Dessert is a highlight. Somebody else mentioned all the selections on the menu.
