Outer Banks North Carolina Best of IgoUgo

Overview

Quote:
Outer Banks is also home to Kitty Hawk where you can go to visit the Wright Brothers Museum. Further down the highway we visited Roanoke Island home of the lost colony (for you history buffs), this was an exceptional place to visit. It is also home to Virgina Dare the first child born in America. We also visited some of the lighthouses in the area and the Outer Banks is also home to the largest area of sunken ships. Nearly 500 ships are along the coast including a Nazi U boat.Quick Tips: To get to the Outer Banks we drove which was about 16 hours. It is a very long drive especially if you have children. The scenic view through the mountains is worth it. Along the way we also drove thro...Read More

Family Fun Best of IgoUgo

Hotel

Quote:
Family Fun is a 5 bedroom/3 bath split level home. The home had a large private pool with outdoor shower and was conviently located to the surrounding beach area. The home had 3 bedrooms on the main floor, kitchen, dining area, living room and den. Walk out screened-in porch off the kitchen and an upstairs loft area. The downstairs had the other 2 bedrooms, with kitchenette, refridgerator, bathroom and living area with a wide variety of movies for the kids. The home was tastefully decorated and worked well with two families travelling together.

Carolina Seafood Best of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Quote:
The Carolina Seafood restaurant is a seafood buffet at $19.95 per person. The large selection of seafood items and desserts made it worth the money. My family and I have children and this was a nice, friendly place to go and let them get what ever they wanted. The restaurant is very large and had enough seating space for large groups (like our) or just the two of you.

The La Fogata was a nice change from all the seafood restaurants you will find on the coast. The menu has many different entrees to choose from and the price was right. The restaurant is very casual and you are seated by a host or hostess when you walk in. Complimentary chips and salsa are given while you wait for your dinner. The service was fast and friendly and the food was great. Seating is available for large groups. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a change of pace.

Wright Brothers National Memorial Best of IgoUgo

Attraction | "The Wright Brothers Museum"

Quote:
The Wright Brothers museum consists of a medium sized builing with a replica of the plane the Wright Brothers designed. There is, of course, the souvenir shop where you may purchase books on the Wright Brothers as well as other topics on aviation. Outside you can walk down to the "hangar" which is also a replica but does have some of the original tools the Wright Brothers used. Next to the hangar is another small building that the brothers used as living quarters. You cannot walk through but it is open to see in and the original furniture is still there. From there you can go to the runway and see the feet markers to show how far each try got them in the air. There is also a monument on top...Read More

Roanoke Island Best of IgoUgo

Attraction

Quote:
Roanoke Island is the site for the lost colony. For you history buffs you would know this is also the birthplace of Virginia Dare. Born in 1857, she was the first English child born in the New World. On Roanoke Island you can go aboard the Queen Elizabeth II a replica of the ship the colonists came over on. The park itself puts on a festival and recreates the settlers arriving. You can also get a guided tour of the island to learn more about what happened to the colonists. The area, also known as Dare County, has plenty for everyone, shopping, a hands on Roanoke Adventure Museum and much more. My family and I enjoyed walking through the park and learning more about the lost colony. This makes f...Read More
