Interlaken
In Summertime, the lakes and rivers offer a big variety of things to do: swimming, waterskiing, canyoning, river-rafting and lots more.

In Wintertime, skiing or snowboarding offers great pleasure. Skiing is best on the "Kleine Scheidegg", "Maennlichen", "First" or the famous "Piz Gloria (Schilthorn)".
The "Piz Gloria (Schilthorn)" it the shootingplace of the Bond-Movie "On her Majestys Secret Service " (1969).

Every skiing place above is accessible via Interlaken - Grindelwald except "Piz Gloria (Schilthorn)", this place is accessible via Interlaken - Lauterbrunnen.

The variety of pubs and bars in Interlaken offers "après-ski" after a heavy day on the snow. There are also a couple dancings for the later evening.
Luxury and budget hotels are all over the place, you may also consider to stay on the mountains (for ex. "Kleine Scheidegg") over night, some of the skiing places have a hostel on top of it.
Probably the most famous place in Interlaken to stay is the "Balmers Herberge", 10 minutes walk from Interlaken city center.

Quick Tips:

The "Brasserie 17/Happy Inn Lodge" is a cheap and very nice pub/bar/hostel (www.brasserie17.ch)

Don't miss the dancing "Highlife" near the train station west.

The "Hüsi Bar Cafe" is perfect for young people (www.huesi.ch)

Best Way To Get Around:

Taxis are quite expensive, most places in town are within walking distance. Public transportation is the best way to get around a bit further, very punctual and resonable priced. Trains to Grindelwald and Lauterbrunnen, to go skiing leave Interlaken at least every hour.

Kleine Scheidegg
If you go in wintertime, take the chance to go skiing, snowboarding or walking in the snow.

One very nice place is the "Kleine Scheidegg" which is located about 1 1/4 hours by train from Interlaken (train goes via Grindelwald or Lauterbrunnen).
Each year, there are the International Lauberhorn Ski-Races where you might go and visit.
If you travel from the "Kleine Scheidegg" further up the mountains by train, you will finally reach the "Jungfrau Joch", a must to see for tourists which just want to enjoy the outlook. Note, the "Jungfrau Joch" is at 3454 meters above sealevel and the air is very thin at this altitude. Don't make any big and stressful movements.

The "First" is also accessible via Grindelwald and a good place to learn skiing or snowboarding. There are different paths you might want to ski, a very easy and a difficult one.

The "Piz Gloria (Schilthorn)" it the shootingplace of the Bond-Movie "On her Majestys Secret Service " (1969). This place is accessible via Lauterbrunnen and be skiing is not for beginners! The restaurant on top is turning very slowly so you can just sit in, have a "café" and enjoy the outlook.

The Matterhorn
Why not fly over Switzerland? The Alp-Air Bern AG offers a variety of different local flights: to the Matterhorn, around the Bernese Alps and lots more....

You will experience Switzerland with a different view, not like everybody else who stays on the ground. Check out the third dimension: snow-covered mountains, rivers and lakes look beautiful when it's a nice flying day.

To do such a trip, best to contact the local Flying School. For the area around Bern, check out the Alp-Air Bern AG flying school Alp-Air Bern AG flying school (German Webpage). I was just there and guarantee good and safe operation and probably will meet you there.

The costs vary, depending which flight you would like to do or for how long you want to fly. At the moment, a Bernese Upperland flight costs around CHF 170.-- per Person for 50 minutes, a Matterhorn flight is about CHF 275.-- per Person for 90 minutes.

The very keen traveller will rent a plane and a flight instructor and will do a trial lesson himself.
