Resturants of New York

Overview

Quote:
Well, I almost always choose the specials because they're mostly better than then usual fare on the menu.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

In New York City, the ONLY ways to travel are by bus, subway, or cab. If I had one thing that I could convince people about New York, it's that you LEAVE YOUR CARS AT HOME!

Lemon Ice King of Corona

Best Of IgoUgo

Restaurant

The WORLD FAMOUS Lemon Ice King of Corona, where they all began. Since my father has and still does live 2 blocks away from there, I've heard many, many stories about this place. "When I was a kid, they only had LEMON!" is the most famous one! They serve Ices almost exclusively. It's been a Corona landmark for some 50 years or more. They have over 25 flavors, from Lemon and Chocolate to the probably kids-only bubble gum. For the perfect evening when one is on a date, go to the Park Side resturant, which is 1 block away, for dinner, head over to the Lemon Ice King of Corona for after-desert desert, then spend an hour or two in the park between both places and watch the old Italian gu...Read More

Park Side Restaurant

This is another Corona staple (See the Lemon Ice King of Corona). The Park Side is a fine dining experience, and they are pretty famous for their Marinara Sauce. Being 100% Italian myself, I can tell you that the sauce is almost as good as mom's, and I can tell a real sauce from the canned variety that a lot of resturants try to pass off as authentic. This is a place that you should order exclusively from their specials, as the menu is more for the less adventurous. You can't go wrong ordering anything off the menu, though, as I've probably tried everything at least once. I've been coming to this resturant for 20 years. You should also try the Proscuitto Bread that they serve with the other bread ...Read More

Cookin' With Jazz

NOTE: Reservations are HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, as there are about 20 tables in this very small resturant. I've been to New Orleans many times, and I must say this is the best Canjun food I've eaten outside of that city. The owner/chef was a chef in New Orleans for 7 years before openning up his resturant here in Whitestone. If you long for the taste of New Orleans, then you MUST come to this restaurant! I recommend the Aligator sausage, Bucket of Crawfish (when they're in season) and the Ostrich medallions when they on the specials menu! There is nothing frozen used in this place and everything is shipped up from Louisiana. Now, if you're looking for decor, you've come to the WRONG place....Read More

Nick's Pizza

Best Of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Quote:
Nick's Pizza is no ordinary pizzeria. There are no slices for purchase here, only pies. Their canolli's are not only freshly made as in "Made fresh every day", but the canolli shell is not filled until you order it. The Ceasar Salad is AUTHENTIC, not the crap you usually get at other resturants. It's made with raw egg and anchovy paste, with romain lettuce and parmasean cheese. You can't go wrong with the house salad either. The menu is very limited, with only a few salads for an appetizer and of course pizza and three different desserts. But the toppings for the pizza are immense. Mushrooms, Proscuitto, Ricotta, Pepperoni, etc. Pies are small or large, and again are made only when you order ...Read More

Piccola Venezia

The finest Italian Restaurant in Queens, in my opinion. Right above the Park Side. This place gets jam packed on the weekends. They have to have more fish choices than an all-seafood restaurant! Last time I was there, I believe it ranged in the twenties. My big recommendation is actually an appetizer, and it's the lobster and avocado salad. Ask for it if they don't mention it when you're getting the specials of the day. Advising on what to try would be hard, as they have a huge menu. You can't go wrong with anything. If you like to be a little adventurous, ask if they are serving the rabbit, ostrich steak, or roast suckling pig, as they are my personal favorites. And yes, they do have "...Read More

Kum Gang San

Restaurant

Quote:
If you're looking for something different, and I mean DIFFERENT, give a Korean resturant a try. This is the best that I've personally been to in Manhattan. The decor is nice but you might get a bit of an attitude if you're not Korean yourself. I usually go with my Korean friends, so I normally don't have a problem! For first timers, I'd recommend the Be Bim Bop, which is basically rice, vegetables, hot sauce, and a boiled egg that you mix yourself to your liking. Be aware that most Korean dishes are spicy-hot! Also, try the Galbi steak, which is cooked right in front of you. There are barbeque pits in each table, and again you cook it to your liking. Once cooked, you take it out, place it...Read More

Virgil's Real BBQ

Restaurant

Quote:
NOTE: Make Reservations here. It will be a LOOOONG wait if you don't! This place, in the heart of Times Square, is what us locals call a "Tourist Trap". No matter what day it is, the place is filled up, with the wait line out the door! But it is well worth it! This is a Barbeque place, something you would take for granted in Kansas City or Memphis. Their specialty is, of course, chicken and ribs. You should avoid this place if: If you've already eaten You're a vegetarian If you have to avoid food that's "bad for you" You WILL be stuffed by the time you're finished. Give the biscuts and gravy a whirl for an appetizer, and the pulled pork sandwich for...Read More

Tuscan Steak

Best Of IgoUgo

Restaurant

Quote:
The motto of this resturant, by well-known resturanteur Jeffrey Chodorow, is style, Style, STYLE. This Midtown Manhattan resturant sports three levels, all made of a dark wood, and each floor is darkly lit. It reminds me of a Manhattan lounge. But it is definitely a sight to see- especially the wine cellar, which is against the wall and is almost the length from the ceiling to the roof. As for the food, once again, style prevails over anything else. Don't get me wrong, the food is actually very good but don't expect a "Peter Luger's" type steak house. While steak, I guess, is their main dish, they also serve Italian fare. I recommend the Penne with yellow tomatoes and ricotta, or the Chile...Read More
