In a suburb of Avignon, we lodged at Hameau Champfleury. It was a cheap B&B but rather basic. A concrete building divided into rooms was our home for that night. We had a small room with just enough place for a double bed. Our cases didn't fit so we had to leave them in some closet at the entry of the room. The bathroom was basic but OK: clean shower and a basin with warm and cold water. Price : 30 €

Place d'Horloge (Mediterranean Cooking)

Restaurant | "Mediterranean Cooking"

Quote:
It would be unfair to mention only the name of one single restaurant in here. Just head to the place d'horloge and you'll have a wide choice. They all offer typical mediterranean plates such as delicious pizzas - the real stuff! - , pastas, paëllas and of course with a wide ringe of French wines. You can even get Sangria and you're really in a great place there where you can watch the city life passing by.

Palais des Papes-Palace of the Popes

Attraction | "Palais des Papes"

Quote:
What can I say ? It's big, really big, and it dominates the city. From the huge place in front of it, you are really overwhelmed by the waiting palace. Once you get in, you get a headphone which leads you through the palace for more than two hours. The complete history of this building is explained in every detail. You visit all important rooms to end on top of the roof where you have an astounding view of Avignon and the wide surroundings. The interior is very limited, but it gives a great impression of the grandeur of the popes in the period they lived there.

Pont d'Avignon/Pont Saint-Benezet

Attraction | "Pont d' Avignon"

Quote:
Sur le pont d'Avignon
on y danse on y danse
Sur le pont d'Avignon
on y danse tout en rond

The song is as famous as the bridge itself. One piece of advice: don't go out there. They ask a crazy admission fee and the bridge is no more than half a bridge that stops after some ten meters into the Rhone River. It's not safe at all, so with children you should be extremely careful. Instead you could visit the park near the palais de Papes, where you have a splendid view and where temperature is more bearable on warm days.

Parking in Avignon

Story/Tip

Quote:
One tip: finding a parking spot in the city itself is almost impossible. Narrow streets make it even difficult to get through and during the day, parkings at the city walls are completely full. However, the city has organized a big free parking just outside the city center - at the other side of the river - and every quarter hour, there is a free shuttle bus which brings you to the city walls. An easy solution.
