There are a few other Howard Johnson's in New York, but this one was in the best location, just one block west of Broadway and the Theatre District.
The actual block that the hotel is on is fairly quiet (it can seem deserted at night), but it is only a short distance to the hustle and bustle of midtown Manhattan.
Of all the hotels that we've stayed at on our travels, this was the largest room we've ever had. Two queen-sized beds fit easily in the room, which was clean and well-furnished.
The lobby seems pretty safe, as there is a security guard by the front door.
When we stayed there (1995), we paid about $100 a night. It was a bargain at the time. If the price hasn't increased that much since then, it would still be considered a bargain.
