Overview

Quote:
Branson doesn't stop at edge of Lake Taneycomo. Cross the bridge to tour the remarkable College of the Ozarks; don't miss the gem of a chapel, working farm and flour mill and amazing museum, rightly known as the Smithsonian of the Ozarks. Drive out to Big Cedar Lodge and discover the remarkable history of this one-time compound of hunting lodges for the wealthy turned resort for families.Quick Tips: Get a map and learn how the alternate routes lead you through town, and in to theatre parking lots, without the 76 Country Blvd. traffic jams.Best Way To Get Around: This is a town built on more hills than Rome. Walking is for the fit and sturdy; buses abound, but only if you rode in o...Read More

Go for the view even if you're not hungry - the food is quite good; the setting is exquisite. The "Rock" is high on a hill overlooking Lake Taneycomo and is part of the Big Cedar Lodge complex. We always take guests here.

Feels like you're on safari and the menu reflects that - wild game, ostrich, etc. They serve a great salad; service is impeccable but ask if there is a bus tour scheduled, and if so, change your time to avoid the group dining.

A wonderful place for those very special occasions. Don't order an appetizer - the chef will still send his beautifully presented appetizer of the day to your table. My husband and I usually share a caesar salad ($7.50) and it's more than enough. I chose the Alaskan halibut with crabmeat topping in a scampi sauce with capers. Delicious! We told them it was our anniversary so there was a complimentary slice of rich cake in a raspberry sauce. We ordered Champagne (a $45 bottle instead of the $325 variety!)and it was perfect with the meal. The view is outstanding over the lake, and the ambience says "celebrate."

Dick's Oldtime 5 & 10

Attraction | "Dick's Five and Dime"

Quote:
Truly the last great "dime store" where nothing much is a dime, but with 50,000 items on hand you will find lots you need or can't resist. This store packed up my childhood and put it on display - little glass figurines, paperdolls, soaps and lotions of a bygone day, embroidery, horehound candy; if it is in your memory, it's at Dick's.
