When most people think of California they tend to think of the beaches of Southern California. That's ok with me since I love the Northern California coast that never have crowds.

Fort Bragg
The Mendocino Botanical Garden is a must! The gardens lead you to a cliff looking out on the ocean.

Quick Tips:

Slow down while you are in Fort Bragg. The people there go at a slower pace than the rest of California. The local police also want you to stay at that pace.

Best Way To Get Around:

Unless you have a private jet or the money to charter a place, the only way to Fort Bragg is the long, curvy road. The town is small but you have to bring your car anyway!

Hotel

The Surrey Inn is a low budget hotel great for travelers who are there for one or two nights. It may have been a Motel 6 somewhere in the past. The rooms are pretty small and through some trees you can see the ocean. The staff are probably the most pleasant people I've ever come across in a motel before. If its romance you want this is not the place to stay.

The Wharf Restaurant
The Wharf is a must if you enjoy seafood. Nested on the banks of the Noyo Harbor, you can have a tasty meal while watching the commercial fishing boats sail out to the ocean. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed the crab sandwich for lunch. It was mid-week and the restaurant was very slow. Not the norm for this restaurant when the tourists are there for the weekend. The plates run from $10.00 to $20.00 and are worth it!

Town of Mendocino
This little town has been around since the 1900's and has been kept in great shape. There are tons of little shops to stroll around in. Mendocino county attracts a lot of artists and their galleries offer local art and beyond. There are lots of restaurants to enjoy. This is another place where time goes slow and the locals are just fine with it. Even the General Store has nothing in common with the big grocery chains.

Attraction | "Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden"

Mendocino Coast Botanical Garden
Open Daily: Mar - Oct: 9 am to 5 pm; Nov - Feb: 9 am to 4 pm. The garden leads you down different paths of your choosing where you see all species of plant-life. If you go early in the morning the dew will still be on the flowers. At one point there is a little bridge over a stream that makes you believe you are somewhere like a forest. The grounds are well kept and very lush. Stop at the small gift shop on the way out to pick up a plant or a postcard.
