Had to get away from NYC so we escaped to Kauai for a week of peace, quiet and some sense of normalcy

Escape to Kauai

Overview

Swim everyday, hike the Kalaulau trail, take a helicopter tour, visit Waimea Canyon.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

We chose to stay here primarily because of the location and the best assurance of drier Kauai weather - we were not expecting much to be honest but this Sheraton far surpassed my expectations. Typically I see Sheraton hotels as being nice but certainly not great, well this one was defintely in the great category. Sitting right on the ocean just west of Poipu Beach, this resort offered everything we wanted from our Hawaiian vacation. It was very open and airy, the rooms were nice but honestly we weren't in them much. The pool and facilities were relaxed but absolutely perfect and the location was even better than we had expected.

Everyday started out with breakfast overloking the ocean, followed by some lounging at the oceanside pool and then snorkelng in cove on the Wetsern portion of Poipu Beach - a beatiful 5 minute walk along the shore. The restaurants we all nice, serving good food if you didn't want to venture out. But the local area, Poipu shopping village and Old Kaloa Town, has a good variety of quality places.

Snorkel Poipu

Activity

Every morning of our week in Kauai we spent a few hours snorkeling in the cove just on the West side of Poipu Beach.

What this location lacks in coral it certainly makes up for with all kinds of tropical fish. The schools were often huge, totally surrounding us as we offered the fish food we had bought at a local shop.

And while this spot is easily accesible with some of the best weather on the island, don't worry about overcrowding if you get there in the morning, the fish definitely out numbered the people everytime we were there.
