Quick Jaunt to London

An August 2005 trip to London by terrir

Quote: I attended a convention in London, but had time to do some "touristy" things, too. This was a quick trip, I had been there before, so during my free time I decided to hit some new attractions and do things I had not done the first time around.

Quick Tips:

Get a London Visitor Travelcard--good for travel on the "Tube" and double-decker buses throughout the city. You really can't see London without this tool.

Best Way To Get Around:

Public transportation--the "Tube" and the double decker buses are the way to go. Plus, many sights, shops, restaurants, etc., are within walking distance of each other.

The Millennium Gloucester Hotel is rated four stars. It is an excellent hotel for meetings and conventions, as they have a large convention center adjacent to the hotel.

Accommodations were ordinary. The room was large, with a king-size bed and a nice-size bathroom. An iron and ironing board were in the room, which was a nice convenience. The location is excellent--South Kensington. The Gloucester Road Tube Station is across the street, as is a small shopping mall with a grocery store, eateries, a pharmacy, etc. A KFC restaurant was about a half-block away. Harrod's is within walking distance, but it is a long walk, a little over a mile each way.

Story/Tip

Quote:
This is the HUGE ferris wheel that was built along the Thames River. It is the BEST way to see London from a bird's-eye view. The specially designed capsules each carry about 20 passengers. It takes 30 minutes to complete the ride. For those who don't like heights, don't worry. The capsule is fully enclosed, and there are seats for those who don't want to stand near the plexiglass.
