The walking and hiking trails here are endless.
Mountaineering is a growing hobby here. The Theatre on the Lake holds daily performances. The parks are spectacularly colorful and groomed to perfection and the friendly locals make for evening socials at the local pubs.

Quick Tips:

Hiking boots, walking shoes are a must. A vacation here is not for the couch potato. The outdoors is the focal point.

Best Way To Get Around:

Walking, walking, walking. Of course, if you prefer to look through a car window (which I don't recommend) you can drive.

The PaddockBest of IgoUgo

Hotel

The Paddock, built in the 1800s, has an historical aura. Contrary to its age, the expected dim rooms are actually bright and flowery, comfortable and cozy, with great views of the lake. English or Continental breakfast is served daily. This B & B was squeaky clean and very welcoming.

Restaurant

This is a great place to sample Cumberland Ham-a must when you are in this area. But, the pastries that are freshly made here are the best. A cup 'o char and a couple of fresh scones are delicious at a reasonable price..

This is a fun place to visit if there is a rainy day included in your stay. The Cars of the Stars Museum displays just that.

Amongst others there, Batman's Batmobiles are displayed as well as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Herby the Lovebug and James Bond's Aston Martin. Also the Mad Max car, KITT, the Knightrider's faithful friend and Magnum's ferrari. A nice change of venue and a little surprise for the kids, This museum has a entry fee of $7 which is well worth it.

Attraction | "The Bowder Stone"

When close by Keswick, a trip to see a natural wonder called the Bowder Stone is a must. This large block of stone is perched on its corner. This position was caused by a melting glacier toward the end of the Ice Age and it has sat this way ever since. An extraordinary sight.

Story/Tip

The Lake District
Keswick, a major town of the northern lakes, is located at the top of Lake Derwenter shadowed by the peaks of Skiddow and Blencathra.

Great authors such as Coleridge and Southey dwelt here when creating their works. William Wordsworth was a constant visitor and reminders of Beatrix Potter dot the area.

Mountaineering has become popular here but for the regular vacationer, the walking and hiking trails are in the forefront. Boat trips on the lake leave regularly and picnics in the perfectly groomed parks here are a staple.

The Lake District is a large and scenic area to explore and Keswick is a great base for your adventures.

The accommodation here is very reasonable. If you prefer camping to add flavor to your stay here, there are also plenty of campgrounds.
