Oh la, la.... St. Martin

Overview

Grand Case restaurants, Grand Case food markets, Marigot Harbor, Ethnic restaurants in Marigot, Hiking the Mountain of St. Martin, visiting the Dutch side.

Quick Tips:

It's not a cheap island, but a beautiful one. You can easily jump over to other islands, as we did to Anguilla on a beautiful catamaran.

Best Way To Get Around:

Taxi, bus will do.

So many amazing restaurants in Grand Case, one can easily become overwhelmed by the choices. It all depends on your mood -- do you feel like a little Italian? Then check out Le Sebastiano -- you'd think you're in an Italian seaside town, not the Carribean. If you're looking for more of the local cuisine, check out the adorable Le Pressoir. It's a charming little hut/house turned into one of the island's best restaurants. We couldn't make it through a day without stopping off at the local market for some fresh lobster, or California a French restaurant serving up some mean crepes.

Marigot is the capital of the French side of St. Martin, is home to several charming and amazing restaurants. For a great view of the harbor, or simply to people watch, take a sidewalk seat at the Le Bar de la Mer. I hear it get's rather loud and roudy in evening, but I wouldn't know since I stayed in the quiet and romantic Grand Case. If you'd like an excellent French meal, try La Vie en Rose, La Grande Dame of St. Martin reataurants. It's a charming, more lively alternative to Grand Case.

There are several beaches to choose from in St. Martin. Again, Grand Case is sleepy but beautiful. Maho Bay is nice, but it's situated next to the airport so if Jet noise doesn't fit into your picture of paradise, I'd avoid Maho. Cul De Sac and Oriental Bay are great if you want a bit more action, such as a seaside massage, wind surfing or jet sking.

Dutch St. Maarten

Attraction

An explanation of why such a small island has two unique cultural influences would require a history lesson, but to the average tourist it simply means 2 for the price of one. Visiting the Dutch side, is a great day trip, but the loads of curiseship tourist that fill the streets makes it a place to see, then return to your island oasis in Grand Case. Call me a Francophile, but I much preferred the French side.
