Amelia island ultimate guide!

A travel journal to Amelia Island by Breathmints

Aelia Isaland is an under spoken American beach spot, with rolling white sand beaches and an over 50 block historic area, marina, and great hotels, Amelia Island is a great way to spend a full few days.

Amelia Island, near Georgia and Florida's border, is near Jacksonville. It's best feature is the white sand beaches. Shells and relaxing waves and sitting on the beach is why people come to Amelia Island, but I must warn you, in the winter it can be cold. Historic Richmondtown is a fifty block historic, restored area featuring many comforting inns, many victorian style architecturally superior houses, and a nice Hampton Inn which appears to be several old buildings but in fact is only one. The historic area is a great walk around town but the limits of it are factories and a slightly poor neighborhood.

Quick Tips:

Another thing to do in Amelia Island is visit the beaches, hiking and biking routes, and Fort Clinch state park. A great, scenic, green drive begins at beaches and streams and ends at a union fort, still manned by troops from history. Amelia Island is a beautiful beach spot with nice history (though faulty museums), and a nice scenic environment.

Best Way To Get Around:

Rent a car in Amelia. The best hotels are the Ritz-Carlton(beautiful!), then the Amelia Island Plantation in number two, and then I'd stay in the various inns and victorian houses but there are several other resorts.

Story/Tip

Amelia island is a great place to base yourself while going on day trips to St. Augustine, the panhandle, and Daytona Beach. Some of these trips are to be an overnight trip. Daytona beach is a great palce to hit the tracks, hit the beach, and enjoy the ocean. Some great hotels are lined up on the coast and it's just a great palce to unwind, relax, and come for a couple of days as a break from Amelia island. There's not much specifically to do in Daytona beach except race cars, beach, and some shopping like they have in any city. Though it's a nice trip, I can't imagine basing yourself there.
