Entries from trips to NYC

Overview

Quote:
Make the effort to go to the top of the Empire State building. It gives you an impressive view of where you are and where you want to go. Highlights for us were the Village, SoHo, and Times Square.

Quick Tips:

Best Way To Get Around:

Public transport and a lot of walking worked for us.

If all you're looking for is a clean bed to sleep in then this is an excellent place to stay. It's probably better if you''re not travelling alone. If you are travelling alone you'll be fine if you're used to hosteling. It has an excellent view of Central Park and is conveniently located near the Central Park skating rink (good for late night hockey games). You can rent bikes too for biking in the park. It won't take you too long to realize that you're in Harlem, be it the furthest south in Harlem you could be. But the hostel is right across the street from a subway station and the corner seems relatively safe. Police patrol it regularly. There are always people hanging around at all h...Read More

Nice little place. Three cozy dining rooms give it a real hole in the wall kind of feel, in a good way. Check out the bathtub in the bathroom. The place is fairly laid back and has a good casual vibe while maintaining a certain classiness about it. Live dinner music too. But let's get to the food. Delicious coal oven pizza! Small is big enough to easily feed two people. Which means that you could easily eat here for $10 or even a little less if you wanted to. Good pasta dishes too. Pizza has good amount of cheese, a little light on the sauce but there was enough. Crust is thin, but still doughy enough. I dug it and I'm picky when it comes to pizza. Worth finding, not necessary to go o...Read More

For those unfamiliar with the phenomena of pro wrestling you should be advised that this restaraunt is a novelty attraction of the World Wrestling Federation. Now that we're all in the know let's cut to the chase. The food is good, but not anything special. It's probably overpriced too. What you're paying for is the novelty and atmosphere of the place. When you enter from the street you will walk into an impressive souvenir shop with all the latest in WWF paraphenalia. Check out the title belts above the cashier. Unfortunately they won't let you get your picture taken with them. You also may find it dissapointing that there is little on display from past eras of pro wrestling or even...Read More

In this age of brand-new arenas, places like Nassau Coliseum pass for having a sense of nostalgia and history. There are talks of a new rink, but this rink still has a clean look and feel to it. But it is definitely early '70s construction, and maintains that look. For me, that added so much to the experience. It looks and feels like the late '70s, early '80s glory years of the NHL--especially outside, where you'd expect to see people strutting around in short '80s shorts sporting glam mullets. And when you get inside and see the banners hanging from the rafters bearing the fabled accomplisments of this franchise in the early '80s, any hockey fan will feel a sense of nostalgia. You expect to see...Read More
