Hollywood; the glitz, the glam- the filth

Overview

Quote:
Shop on Melrose Ave.; visit the "Hollywood" sign; eat everywhere; visit the Queen Mary; see everything!!Quick Tips: Having your own vehicle seems to be by far the best option. Save yourself plenty of time to get anywhere in Los Angeles. Though it is very hard to find a parking spot anywhere (no matter where you go it seems that parking is a pay toll - if there is room anywhere!) but it seems as though no matter where you go inside or outside of the city, you seem to stay parked on the highways forever. The streets are all over crowded and to say traffic is "slow moving" is an understatement! Also allow yourself a good week to visit. There is so much to see, it is unbelievable. Best ...Read More

Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles

Restaurant | "Roscoe's Chicken & Waffles"

We tripped into Rosco's by accident. It was only in the years following our visit we have realized how famous it is. You cannot watch a movie about LA without a reference to it.

Though it leaves much to be desired as a place to be, so to speak, the food is excellent. Who would think to get a breakfast with what they call "southern fried chicken" and waffles, eggs and potatoes on the same plate? Being that I live in the south, I had to try it.

Even if you aren't near the area, it is well worth the drive. And the next time you watch a movie that mentions it, you will remember that breakfast every time!!

We went directly following the "Bauhaus" concert. I had such a great time at the concert, I just wanted to go back to the hotel and relish in our excitement. When we got back however, my friend had a different plan in mind. Though I thought this was the worst idea she had ever had, I reluctantly went and had a great time. While we were there, I ended up spending the night talking to Kevin Key of skinny Puppy, and Ryan Moore of The Legendary Pink Dots and Download. I had met Ryan once before and spent the evening talking to him at a Pink Dots show in Orlando. It was great. Meeting a music mastermind like Kevin was a terrific experience. That evening was a huge contribution to our week in LA....Read More

Bauhaus Concert

Attraction

Quote:
This was show number 3 of what was supposed to be only 3 shows. It was by far the best concert I have ever seen. The venue is one that is nicer than most. If you ever have a chance to see a show that you would like in the Paladium, go, it is worth it.

Our trip

Story/Tip

Quote:
My friend and I went to Hollywood to see a concert. Yes, we traveled from Florida to see a band that hadn't performed together in 12 years, it began as a bad idea and ended up being an awesome trip. We saw the Mansions, the destruction of Malibu after the mudslides, did all of the tourist-like things-and had a blast. One of my favorite moments was our trip to the "Queen Mary". (Read about it in the destinations/activities section.) We met some amazing people (famous one's at that) on our trip, and actually bumped into some old friends from Florida! LA is a melting pot of people, cultures, and dreams. We also couldn't resist a trip to "skid row" which is a truely depressing adven...Read More
