DO: Walk around the downtown area. Well-preserved, historic homes date back to the 1700s.
DO NOT: Look into windows. Unlike Williamsburg, private citizens own and live in this town. Be respectful.
DO: Enjoy ice cream in dairy country. Two notable places are The Creamery (the best ice cream imaginable, but crowded and slightly pricey) or the Freez & Frizz (not as good quality, but cheaper and faster, they also have an outside grassy area to the right, along a creek, with picnic tables, great for kids who need to run).
DO: Eat out. The Harvest View restaurant has PA Dutch food, without a long wait and with a beautiful view of Amish farmland. A number of other restaurants are just as great, or better, but can be mobbed in the tourist season.
DO: drive through the surrounding Amish countryside.
DO NOT: take pictures of the Amish, for them it is a sin to have graven images made of them. They also tire of being obviously gawked at.
DO: Be careful when passing horses and buggies.
DO: Visit the Strasburg Rail Road. Old steam locomotives. Great fun. Visits from Thomas the tank enginer each year.
