Christmas and New Year's in Edinburgh

Ice skating in Princes Street Gardens and riding the ferris wheel all part of the Winter Carnival that goes on in December and early January. Trying to visit every pub on Rose Street before the end of the trip. Wandering the Royal Mile in and out of closes and wynds.

The center of Edinburgh is fairly compact and easily walkable though there is an extensive system of double decker buses available.

This is a group of three different bar/restaurants: Dirty Dick's and the Bad Ass located next to each other on Rose Street and Clever Dick's located on High Street (the Royal Mile.) I must admit I was a little put off by the names at first, we first visited Dirty's Dicks for dinner and drinks. The ceiling and lighting are low and the tables and walls are lit with candles providing a very homey relaxed atmosphere. There's lots of interesting bric-a-brac on the walls. The food is high quality we ate there a couple of times and I had a great haddock. Its a nice place to sit down by the fire for a couple of drinks without dinner as well, a nice break from standing up at the bar as in many other pubs. The other two places have similar atmospheres, Clever Dick's on the Royal Mile provides a good place to have a quiet drink while taking a break from sightseeing in the area.
