An Asian Twist to Adelaide

Overview

Hi! I'm an Asian food fanatic (every Asian is a bit of a food fanatic) who is currently living here, and I aim to bring the less well-known, less touristy parts of Adelaide to light, as well as some deserving favourites! As a traveller, I've always loved hanging out with the locals and getting "out of the guide book": they usually turn into my most memorable experiences. I also go camping and hiking alot in South Australia, so there will slowly be some active pursuits added. Anyway, here's my totally subjective list with a few of my favourite places and things to do. My top ten list: 10. Free museums (missable if you are European/ going to Canberra or Melbourne) 9. Henle...Read More

Penang Hawker

Restaurant

Quote:

Authentic Asian at reasonable prices. It can get crowded on weekdays at lunchtime, but is well worth a visit. Anyone who is hankering for good SIngaporean/ Malaysian cuisine should definitely come here!

*Note that it's only open for weekday lunch until 2-3pm, so dinner here is out.

Recommended dishes:
1. Combination Sar Hor Fun - thick rice noodle, seafood and veggies stir-fried with a very tasty egg and garlic sauce.
2. Beef with Black Bean Hor Fun - thick rice noodle and beef stir fried in a thick, succulent black bean sauce.
3. Har Mee - spicy prawn noodle soup.

Adelaide Central Market

Attraction | "Central Market"

Picture an open market teeming with life: parents and kids shopping, greengrocers hawking their wares at the top of their voices, a littte Vietnamese lady who looks like 60 but is probably 75 selling you cheap bok choy, scrumptious meat and cheese, the smell of fresh bread and fresh brewed coffee.... you get the picture. It has always been my slice of heaven in Adelaide, being the foodie I am. I love the sheer choice of things. If you don't like big white onions, buy the small purple ones. Don't like veggies, buy meat! There's everything from kangaroo to crocodile on sale, and lots of cool Asian goodies at Chinatown next door. Central Market is a great place to people watch, find some fresh produce if...Read More

Coonawarra Private Wine Tour

Attraction | "Coonawarra Wine Region"

Quote:
South Australia's prime wine real estate lies in a small haven called Coonawarra. Its unique geological and climatic features is ideal for growing vines bearing the highest quality grapes available for making wine, and many wine experts agree that it produces the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the world. Cabernet Sauvignon is Coonawarra's flagship variety, but the region also produces fine reds from Shiraz and fine whites from Chardonnay and Riesling. Unlike the more accessible Barossa Valley, the Coonawarra region lies midway between Adelaide and Melbourne, in an area with few notable tourist attractions. This "inconvenient" location is a boon to wine tasters. Cellar doors are seldom host to large ...Read More
