Le Baladin Saint Louis, at about 15 minutes walking from the Chateau, is surrounded by buildings. This small restaurant is really charming. Food is really tasty and well presented. If you enjoy chocolates, you have to try "La triologie du chocolat" which is impossible to describe with words.

Restaurant

Quote:
Have you ever dreamed of eating in the Chateau de Versaille. This is your chance!

This restaurant is closed for evenings.

Reservations are mandatory during weekends.

The nice environment of this house built at the end of the 19th century will make the final magic in your visit.

You can chose between the inside room and the outside place.

To be honest, don’t expect too much of the inside, but happiness will be at the "rendez vous" if you select the outside especially in summer time.

If you can’t afford that dream, just think to prepare the "pick nick" - this is allowed in the park. And go to the "La Flottille" to take the coffee.

If you just feel like taking a stroll, the park is free (Sunday 20 FF) and the scenery is better the further you go from the palace. There are even informal groups of trees near the lesser outcrops of royal mania : the Italianate Grand Trianon, designed by Hardouin-Mansart in 1687 as a "country retreat" for Louis XIV, and the more modest Greek Petit Trianon, built by Gabriel in the 1760s. More charming and rustic than either of these is Le hameau de Marie-Antoinette, a play-village and farm built in 1783 for Louis XVI's queen to indulge the fashionable Rousseau-inspired fantasy of returning to the natural life. The park is extremely large. If you find that you cannot manage them by foo...Read More

Chateau - Castle

Attraction | "The Chateau"

Quote:
The Chateau proposes two itineraries; either a guided tour or not. Apart from the state apartments of the king and queen and the Galerie des Glaces (the Hall of Mirrors, where the Treaty of Versailles was signed to end World War I), which you can visit on your own, most of the palace can only be viewed in guided groups, and whose times are much more restricted. Long queues are common. Unfortunately, only a small part of the palace can be visited: the State Apartments of the King and Queen, and the Hall of Mirrors. The worst time to visit the Chateau is on Sunday when the entrance fee is reduced and the queues are interminable. A guided tour for an extra twenty-four francs takes you in the King's...Read More

Well you can't miss it! This is the biggest thing in the park !!!

This canal is composed presenting a cross, it was fully finished in 1670. This canal is 1650 meters long an 62 meters large for the biggest part of the cross and 1070 meters long and 80 meter large for the small part of the cross.

This canal is really popular for runners, if you go visit Versailles canal during weekends, you will get a chance to see me running. To recognize me, that's easy - I do 4 loops and I’m the fastest runner ;)

This canal is really popular because you can rent small boat on a ½ hour basis and enjoy boating.

Grands Appartements The State apartments consist of the reception rooms - the Salon d'Hercule, the Grand Appartement and the Galerie des Glaces - and the living quarters, of which the most interesting are the royal bedrooms. Salon d'Hercule Known as Hercules' Salon, this room, begun in 1712 and completed in 1736, owes its name to the ceiling painted by Lemoyne. The artist needed three arduous years to cover the 315m2/3390sq ft ceiling with a painting of Hercules entering the Kingdom of the Gods. The artist committed suicide in 1737 shortly after finishing it. Two Veronese canvases occupy their original places: Christ at the House of Simon the Pharisee, Elieze...Read More

The King's suite stretches around the Marble Court. Designed between 1682 an 1701 by Mansart in Louis XII's Château, the decoration marks a clear break in the evolution of Louix XIV's style. The ceilings are not coffered but painted white; the white and gold panelling replaces the marble tiling; large mirors adorn the fireplaces. Escalier de la Reine The Queen's Staircase was the normal entrance to this apartment at the end of the Ancien Régime. After the guard-room, an antechamber leads to the Salon de l'Oeil de boeuf. Here gentlemen attended the ceremonious King's rising (getup) and retiring. The decoration marks the first flowering of Louis XV style. ...Read More

The two-storey palatine chapel with a royal gallery is dedicated to St Louis. It was constructed by Juies Hardouin-Mansart and finished in 1710 by his brother-in-law Robert de Cotte. The ceiling is the work of the painters Jouvent, Coypel and La Fosse. The marble altar sculpted by Van Cleve is decorated in front with a gilded bronze low relief representing a Pieta by Vasse.

Versailles Photo, Versailles, France

Symbol of absolute monarchy and the apogee of the arts in France during the reign of the Sun King, Versailles became the residence of the court and seat of government on 6 May 1682 and remained so until the Revolution. Small beginnings - In 1624 Louis XII gave orders to build a small hunting lodge around the present Marble Court. Phillibert le Roy reconstructed the château in brick and stone in 1631. Louis XIV retained his father’s château; from 1661 he had the gardens embellished for his splendid festivals. In 1668 the King’s architect Louis Le Vau constructed a stone "envelope", around the small château, building façades which concealed the old façades on the ...Read More
