Obviously you won't want to miss Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. However, there are a few lesser known places that are also worth a visit. Don't miss a white-water rafting trip down the Snake River in the summer or a day of skiing at Teton Village during the winter. In the evenings there are several amazing restaurants to try, The Old Yellowstone Garage and Off Broadway are my personal favorites. It may be possible to catch a hockey game at Snow King...or just the locals playing broomball. There are several fun bars to choose from too, but about the only one with dancing is the famous Million Dollar Cowboy Bar.Quick Tips: If you plan to fly into Jackson book flights way in advance. The Old Yellowstone Garage originally was in Dubois (80 miles away)...however there were so many people driving from Jackson to eat that they just decided to move!

Food is exceptional and the owners (David and Cynthia) are a delight. Ask David to suggest a bottle of wine...he will not disappoint you. The restaurant is comfortable, friendly, and very accomodating.

This is a popular place with locals and tourists, so it is a good idea to make reservations!

Looking for the place with the best apres ski action after a day on the slopes at Jackson Hole? The Mangy Moose is where you can find all of the locals--and tourists in the know. It has the best entertainment, beer specials, and great snacks! Not to mention the ambiance and of course the moose suspended from the ceiling. Definitely try one of the many micro-brews! Be sure to get there early to get a good seat--otherwise you will end up in the overflow bar. The Mangy Moose is easy to find--everyone knows where it is! It is located in the plaza just across the street from the post office and next to the clock tower. Don't forget to buy one of their famous t-shir...Read More

There is nothing like finding a place with excellent food at affordable prices in a ski resort. Vertical has a wide selection of ski lunches available for $8!!! It is amazing. Exceptional burgers, sandwiches, and salads--not to mention great beer. I had a cheeseburger with fries, my brother Brit had a chicken Caesar salad and my brother Beau had a Philly cheese steak sandwich. All were great and I doubt that we would have been able to find anything half as good on the mountain. Plus the mountain prices would have been about twice as much. It is worth it to come down, take off the skis, and walk about five minutes just to have a tasty and affordable ski lunch. The evening menu i...Read More

Have you ever wondered what it is like to ski with some of the world's best? Ski at Teton Village and you are sure to find several of them. The mountain is steep and has over 4,000 vertical feet. Although it is not for the faint of heart, TV is truly the finest resort in the USA for those who have a passion for steeps. The mountain can be warm at the bottom and substantially cooler at the top, so dress in several easy layers. Mornings tend to be warmer on Apres Vous (the intermediate/beginner side of the mountain), but will get very cold in the afternoons. Because of the high elevation and direct exposure it is important to wear sunscreen (and keep layering it on throughout the day)....Read More

Dog Sledding

Attraction

If you have ever watched anything about the Iditarod you undoubtedly know how exciting it can be to fly over the snow in a sled pulled by running dogs! Jackson Hole is a great place to give this a try...there are several options, but my favorite is Washakie Outfitters from Dubois. They have two locations where it is possible to go out for a day, either at Teton Village or on Togwotee Pass. I suggest a half or full day tour on Togwotee. Allow about 1 hour to get from Jackson to Togwotee. You will drive past the Tetons and through some of the country's most gorgeous scenery. Don't forget to tip your guide if you enjoyed your tour ($10-$20)...these guys basically survive on gratuities. ...Read More

Jackson Hole is a great place to ski for intermediate and upper level skiers. The terrain is perfect for a wide variety of skiers, and the steeps and bowls are unlike those found anywhere else in the USA. Because Jackson Hole has a fantastic ski school (be sure to request Beau Schiner or Rob Sloan), the entire family will have a good time either learning to ski or working on improving their skills. On a sunny day the views of the valley below are unbelievable! The low base elevation of 6311 feet means that most people will not suffer from altitude sickness. It also offers a wide variety of non-ski activities in a beautiful setting. Take a day off of skiing and try snowmobiling or dog sleddi...Read More
