I often vistit Walt Disney World and I always stay on the property. There are so many exciting things to do while there for both the young and old.

For Ice Cream Lovers: Beaches and Cream at the Yacht and Beach Club resort (one of the Epcot resorts). The best ice cream sundaes and for a quick lunch--grilled cheese, hotdogs, hamburgers--good food, cheap.

Quick Tips:

Best time to go: September, 1st 2 weeks in December, January - 2nd week in February. The weather is beautiful--not too hot and you may need a light jacket. The line are not long and you can get on every ride.

Best Way To Get Around:

The best way to get around is to use the transportation that is provided. Check with the hotel you are staying at for the pickup times. The buses generally run every 20 - 30 minutes.
The accommodations are excellent. For a family traveling with children, the units all have refrigerators and microwaves. This saves on eating out all the time. The studio units have a small refrigerator, coffeemaker, microwave, and toaster (when requested). The one, two, and 3-bedroom units all have a full kitchen with a dining area and a living room. All units have their own balcony. Most of the units are timeshares but you can also call for availability. It is a quiet community. There are many pools around, so there is always one within walking distance of the unit. We recently went down with our friends and their 3-year-old. We stayed in the 2-bedroom unit, which was perfect for all of us. Everyone had their space, and there was enough room for the little one to run around. Eating breakfast in the room was nice, and we could actually cook whatever we wanted.

The Character Breakfast at Chef Mickey's is the best one that I have been to. It is the best place for the children to see the characters. Most of the Character Breakfasts do not have Mickey at them. Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale and Goofy are there. Goofy stands at the door greeting guests as they arrive and the others walk around to all the tables. There are people who walk around with the character to ensure that they are visiting all the tables. Have the kids get out their autograph books and have your camera ready. The food is always good too. It is always busy so call ahead for reservations--even before you leave if you have a particular time that you would like to go.

Boma

Restaurant

On a recent trip (January 2005), we took our friends along with us. There were four adults and one 3-year-old. Everyone raved about the food. It's one of my favorite restaurants. Reservations are recommended. It is buffet-style. The soups are delicious. There are several types of meats at the carving station, along with many salads, hummus, breads, side dishes. Desserts are small--the perfect size for trying several of the desserts. They have a kids buffet--chicken fingers, mac and cheese, french fries--but they can eat from the regular buffet as well. Arrive early and walk out the back of the resort to see the animals on the savannah.

This is a great place to have breakfast with kids. Goofy, Chip and Dale, and Minnie Mouse walk around to each table. You are not rushed here, and the service was excellent. The characters each visited our table at least two times, and some came back for a third time. It was great because we had a 3-year-old with us who loved to hug the characters. They sat next to him, hugged him, and took some pictures as well. The food here is better than at some of the other character breakfasts I have done.

We tried this restaurant for the first time in January 2005. The service was excellent, as was the food. We never had to ask for another drink; she just kept bringing out more for us (we were drining iced tea). The cheddar cheese soup was superb. The chicken dish that we had was wonderful too, but the steak at the next table looked fabulous as well. The breadsticks were hot from the oven and tasted great. I would definitely go back the next time I am down there.
