Honolulu with the kids

A March 1999 trip to Honolulu by brrmoose

Quote: Honolulu is a great place to take the kids for a beach vacation. Before kids, the husband and I would take weekend trips to Honolulu to lie on the beach and eat island snow's (it's like a snow cone). The beaches are great for people watching. The outer parts of the island are fun, but after visiting once, we prefer to stay on the beach.

Honolulu with the kids

Overview

Quote:
This trip was the girls' first trip to the beach.

Quick Tips:

Make sure to take plenty of sunscreen, go shopping during the hot time of the day and don't worry about the rain showers, they're over before you know it.

Best Way To Get Around:

Ohana Waikiki West

Hotel | "Outrigger West"

Quote:
On a 4-star rating system, I would say they would be a 2. This Outrigger Hotel is a budget hotel that is clean and comfortable. We''ve stayed there many times and have always been pleased with the accommodations. It''s located two blocks from the beach, but you must walk through some great shopping areas to get to the beach, so it''s worth the walk.

Honolulu Zoo

Attraction

Quote:
The zoo was well kept and clean. The animals looked happy, well... happy as a caged animal could look. There were lots of animals for the kids to see. The kids enjoyed the variety of the activity, compared to laying around on the beach all day. I would recommend the zoo to anyone who visits Honolulu.

Pearl Harbor and USS Arizona Memorial

Attraction | "Pearl Harbor Memorial"

Quote:
The museum/film is very informative regarding what actually happened on the site 60 years ago. It is very humbling to be standing on the site where WWII started for America. It is an emotional attraction. Out on the memorial there is a respectful silence for those who lost their lives. It's an eerie feeling to look down into the turrets of the Arizona, knowing they should be high above my head, yet they are lying under my feet and that most of those on the Arizona are still there. I would highly recommend this for everyone. Our veterans should be highly respected and by visiting and learning more about Pearl Harbor, it give those of us who are appreciative of their sacrifices a new perspect...Read More
