The Tyrolean town of Innsbruck, Austria is a beautiful community which is almost completely surrounded by mountains. The main language spoken there is German, but visitors can get by easily with Italian and English to a smaller extent. The town is filled with beautiful buildings and everywhere you turn, you're treated to dramatic mountain vistas.I visited Innsbruck in October, so the autumn leaves were falling from the trees and the air had a bite of frost. The mountains were topped with fresh layers of snow, and even though I had to wear extra layers, I was happy to see the Austrian Alps with their white peaks. While it's a great place to visit all year round, Innsbruck truly comes al...Read More

Rome Via Public Transportation

One of the main features of any trip budget is the cost of transportation. Some budgets facilitate car rentals or taxis to drop the individual everywhere he or she wishes to go. Other budgets are preferably geared towards cheaper modes of transport, mainly in the form of public transportation and a lot of walking. Both of these methods will allow a visitor to tour a new country, but the low budget traveller will do so at a fraction of the price which the luxury traveller will pay.Personally, I fit into the low budget traveller category and I managed to tour the Italian city of Rome on less than 5 euros! While Italy is not ranked as one of Europe's cheaper destinations, the public transp...Read More

The Yellow Hostel is a fine choice for budget travellers paying a visit to the ancient city of Rome. Located within close proximity to the Roma Termini train station, it's convenient for persons who enjoy independent travel. I arrived at the Yellow Hostel after a ten minute walk from the station. The staff at the check-in counter was very efficient and their mannerisms were warm and friendly. The welcoming atmosphere immediately put me at ease and the check-in process was quick and painless. There were several brochures for guest tours in the lobby, and even a bowl of complimentary candies was available. After signing all of the appropriate documents, I was given my keycard...Read More

It's almost impossible to visit the Austrian town of Innsbruck without noticing the regal peaks of the Cathedral of St. James. The cathedral's dome and towers are built in the typical Austrian fashion, with rounded roofs on each of the towers and the light green and white colour scheme is easy on the eyes, but doesn't blend into the mountains which surround the tiny metropolis. The Cathedral of St. James was built between the years of 1717 and 1724 and although it was damaged during World War II, dedicated restoration efforts have returned the property to its former glory which we can now appreciate today. All throughout the cathedral and grounds are statues of various Saints o...Read More

Dubrovnik's City Harbour is a large port area, located a short distance from the entrance of the Old City. As my cruise ship sailed in, I saw countless homes with their ubiquitous red tiled roofs looking extremely brilliant in the morning light. After a while, we were moored and allowed off the ship for a day of exploration. For an industrial area, I found the Dubrovnik City Harbour to be quite attractive. The water was so clear, that I was able to easily spot several schools of fish swimming around near the boats which were docked at the pier. It was great to see that pollution wasn't a concern and the visibility was truly surprising. There were different types of sea vesse...Read More
