Quote: No, not San Francisco, I'm talking about the Dallas suburb of Frisco, Texas. I was only in town for about 50 hours, but had a nice time. It whetted my appetite (literally) for yummy Tex-Mex next month when I go to San Antonio.

When I knew I’d be traveling to Dallas, my hopes would be that I’d have an opportunity to enjoy at least one good Mexican dinner during my whirlwind weekend. When it was suggested that we walk across the street to the Cantina Laredo, it sounded like a perfect choice. They did not disappoint. There were about 15 in our group of soccer fans on a Saturday night, but the staff was able to handle our 6:45p dinner reservation in one of their side dining rooms. As we arrived, the hostess led folks to the table as our server began to take beverage orders. Since I had a lot planned for my Sunday, I opted to skip the adult beverages although I have to admit the margaritas looked wonderful. I’m a...Read More

Since I had plans to tour the George W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum before my evening flight and the Green Bay Packers were scheduled to play at noontime, I wanted to find a local corner bar to have a sandwich and watch the first half of the game. Once I had located the Presidential Library & Museum, my task was to find a nearby bar. Who would think finding something small and local would be difficult near a college?I used "Toots" (my Garmin) to locate a nearby bar. The first play she found was in the upscale neighborhood of Highland Park. I have to say, even if I had been able to find parking, the BMW’s, Jaguars and Mercedes were an indication this wasn’t what I had in ...Read More

Having recently referred to another dining experience as "amazing" I realize I may be using the superlative excessively but I cannot do a review on Estilo Gaucho Brazilian Steakhouse without giving credit where credit is due. My dining experience with some soccer friends was amazing! As I understand the story, Estilo Gaucho is a relatively new restaurant on the Frisco fine dining landscape. Opened within the last year in a building that had previously been home to other restaurants in the same space, the owners of Estilo Gaucho have been successful in part due to his commitment to providing delicious food, attentive service and a fine attention to detail in all aspects of the business....Read More

I remember the very first time I had lunch at a Fuddruckers. It was back in the mid 1980’s in Annandale, Virginia. I can still visualize the huge sides of beef hanging in a refrigerated butcher shop viewable as guests enter the restaurant and wait in line to place their burger orders. I recall someone saying during one visit "Hmmm that’s not very appetizing seeing raw meat hanging there." Today’s Fuddruckers is a very different experience and nearly twice as expensive as it was 25 or 30 years ago.Back in the day, they were known for the freshly ground beef, fresh ingredients, on-site bakery and yummy thick milk shakes. Today, much of what goes into bring that hamburger to your plate o...Read More

The Westin Stonebriar was my home base for my weekend jaunt to Dallas. Located in the suburban community of Frisco it is the perfect location for anyone planning to attend a FC Dallas soccer game at Toyota Stadium or while participating in meetings with US Youth Soccer Association. My room on the "Starwood Preferred Guests" floor was very nice. In addition to the king size bed, the room was spacious, open and bright. It had a sitting area with two comfy chairs and a work desk, as well as a large flat screen television. There was also a small refrigerator and safe built into large dresser. The bathroom was equally spacious with the Westin "rainfall shower" and premium toiletries....Read More

Story/Tip

Quote:
My weekend trip to Dallas was admittedly a whirlwind and planned somewhat at the last minute. I was able to pick up a decent airfare for a direct flight from Milwaukee to the Big D on American Airlines. I was happy when I learned that my outbound flight would be on the small 50 seater Embraer ERJ 145. The seating configuration is X / XX so as a single traveler it is always nice to have nobody on either side of you. The downside for some may be that there isn't a lot of storage space inside the overheads so most roller bags must be "valet" checked plane-side in the jetway. It's really not that bad, however, as you can also pick up your bag in the jetway so you don't have to wait at baggage claim ...Read More
