Restaurant | "Gourmet Italian Food in my Home Town"

Ti Amo Photo, Yorkshire, England
Quote:
Ti Amo is an Italian restaurant situated in my home town of Penistone. Here you will find an extensive menu offering a range of crespella (pancakes), pastas, pizzas and risottos, along with daily specials. The décor is stylish and attractive, with a mural of St Mark’s Square making a striking visual impression. We did feel that our section of the restaurant was a bit dark, however. After straining our eyes for a while, we got out of our seats and stood under the lights so that we could read the menu more easily! The staff were friendly and efficient throughout our visit. For my starter, I decided to have Polpette al Pomodoro e Pesto, homemade Italian meatballs in a tomato and...Read More

River Etherow Walk

Attraction | "Picnics by the river (or in the river)"

River Etherow Walk Photo, Yorkshire, England
Quote:
The River Etherow walk on the Longdendale Trail is one of my family’s favourite spots for a gentle stroll. It is located on the main road from Barnsley to Manchester on the Woodhead Pass. This walk is ideal on hot summer days because it offers both shady and sunny spots. You can have a picnic on the grassy banks or do as we do, find a big, flat rock in the middle of the river and spread your picnic out on there. There are lots of shallow waters where the rocks are low and there are no treacherous steep drops, making it ideal for paddling. It is not deep enough to swim. When my children were small they would spend hours building a dam across the river. You can sunbathe on the rocks and...Read More

Attraction | "A Family Park in South Yorkshire"

Cannon Hall Museum Photo, Yorkshire, England
Quote:
Cannon Hall is a Georgian country house set in 70 acres of landscaped parkland, the former home of the Spencer-Stanhope family who made their fortune in the iron industry. The hall and park is located in the village of Cawthorne, approximately 3 miles from Barnsley. I have fond memories of being taken here as a child. What I love most about the park is the wonderful tall trees. You can always find a shady spot for a picnic even on the warmest days. The only off-putting thing about this park is the abundance of duck poo. At the water’s edge you can barely walk without putting your foot in something unpleasant (especially so if you happen to be wearing flip-flops or open toed ...Read More

The Loft Coffee Shop

Restaurant | "My Local Coffee Shop"

The Loft Coffee Shop Photo, Yorkshire, England
Quote:
The Loft is located in the hub of the market town of Penistone, South Yorkshire. Although not in the most scenic of locations, situated within close proximity to the Tesco store and market area, once inside it is stylish and welcoming. The staff are always friendly and efficient I have never experienced service without a smile here. (As you would expect with a coffee shop called 'The Loft', you do need to go upstairs to access it, which is a consideration if you have mobilty problems.)At the counter, where you order your food, you will see plates and plates of tempting homemade cakes, which are sure to whet your appetite. Although in many ways The Loft has the cosy feel of ...Read More

Zizzi's

Restaurant | "Rustic Italy - in a Yorkshire shopping centre!"

Zizzi's Photo, Sheffield, England
Quote:
We recently enjoyed a tasty meal at our local Zizzi, located on the upper floor of the Oasis food court at the Meadowhall Shopping centre. The restaurant is open from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday. It’s a great choice if you want to combine a meal with a trip to the Vue cinema located at Meadowhall, or if you just want a break from shopping. We visited on Sunday evening when it was fairly quiet, although there were enough diners to provide a pleasant atmosphere. Although the restaurant is located in a shopping centre, you can (just about) pretend you are eating in a trendy, Italian café. You can choose a table inside (where you can watch the pizzas being ma...Read More

Restaurant | "A Bar Meal on my Birthday"

Cubley Hall Photo, Sheffield, England
Quote:
Cubley Hall is situated approximately half an hour's drive from Sheffield and is well placed for exploring the Peak District and the Trans-Pennine trail. We have been coming here for many years. Cubley Hall has an interesting history. It was once a farm, but became a gentleman’s residence and later an orphanage before it was turned into a hotel, pub and restaurant. The building retains some of the grandeur you would expect of a country residence. Set in 4 acres of grounds with views across the fields, it is particularly pleasant in summer when you can sit outside with a drink or a meal. When our children were younger, this was an ideal place to go as it meant that fidgety y...Read More

Newmillerdam Country Park

Attraction | "Good for a Lazy Sunday Stroll"

Newmillerdam Country Park Photo, Wakefield, England
Quote:
Situated 3.5 miles from Wakefield, this 237-acre country park offers a picturesque lakeside walk. Admission is free apart from a small car park fee.The walk around the lakeside is about 3 kilometres, but shorter if you go over the causeway. The path is wide and even enough for wheelchairs and pushchairs. There are benches for resting, taking in the views or having a picnic. If you’re lucky you might spot grey squirrels, foxes or rabbits. If you want a longer walk, you can also explore the surrounding bridleways and a disused railway track. In addition to feeding the ducks and swans, we encountered a flock of gulls and watched entranced as they soared through the sky, displa...Read More
