We ate here as a party of 4 (including our 9 year old son) on a Thursday evening in summer - pre-theatre so we were dining quite early. We had made a reservation - the restaurant was not packed but was pleasantly busy. This is one of the newest restaurants in the trendy Spinningfields area of Manchester. It is easy to find and seems to be one of the "in places." From the moment we stepped through the door, I loved the decor and environment - it is stylish, cool and modern. It looked as if no expense has been spared to create this restaurant. It is huge - 12,000 square feet and feels semi-industrial. There are big windows overlooking the street below and it has an airy, lig...Read More

Cycling in Blackpool

We spent a lovely day cycling along the promenade in Blackpool. We were a group of 4 - three of us brought our own bikes and one hired a bike in Blackpool. This worked very smoothly and the rental bikes were well maintained and extremely comfortable. The cost for a full day of rental was just £7.00.There are a few different places in Blackpool where you can sort bike rental, we went to Solaris on the promenade (just opposite the huge glitter ball). They had plenty of the bright yellow bikes and after filling out a few forms, we were all set. The bikes all have names - we had "Jackie" so there is no problem recognising your bike. We ended up with a repeat visit to Solaris - one of our...Read More

Having visited the more famous big sister of this place in London earlier in the year, we decided, during a day trip to Blackpool to come here too. We have been to Blackpool many times and often noticed Madame Tussauds, but never really felt inspired to go inside. An added incentive was that we had annual Merlin passes which gave us free entrance. It is easy to find - you can't miss it - right on the promenade with huge writing all over the front of the building just opposite the Central Pier. In the past I thought it looked very tacky, but put these thoughts to one side on this visit. It is open every day all year round from 10 am, closing times vary.Ticket prices are quit...Read More

An Afternoon at the Tower

We have been to Blackpool Tower a couple of times before in the past, but decided to go back today and revisit what we most enjoyed before. We had bought Merlin annual passes earlier this year, so that gave us free entrance into the Tower. The Tower has varied opening times throughout the year, so you really do need to check the website. In peak season though it opens every day from 10 am. They have a number of different attractions inside, you pay according to what you want to do and see. If you want to do everything - the Tower and Eye, the Dungeon, the Circus, the Ballroom and the play area it costs a huge £51.80 per person or £39.35 per child. There is a massive reduction if you ...Read More

Lymm Dam

We spent a very pleasant afternoon in the little village of Lymm in Cheshire. It is very picturesque and pretty - the centre is especially nice. The best way to explore the village and its surroundings is to walk the Lymm Heritage Trail. This is a self guided walk which is completely flat, along paths and tracks and is about 3.5 miles in length and only takes a couple of hours at a leisurely pace.We found a free car park at the back of a church hall in Crouchley Lane. From there, you can pick up signs to the dam and the heritage trail. You walk slightly downhill to the waterside. It is peaceful and tranquil, we spotted quite a few fishermen. Just at the start of our walk, we came ac...Read More
