Food glorious food!I rather think that despite Belgium being on the slightly boring side what it lacks in excitement it certainly makes up for food wise. There are many eateries around Brussels which are really reasonably priced and will give a few examples of the delights. What is Belgium famous for?ChipsChocolateWafflesBeer.Moules Marinier! Chips. No trip would ever be complete without having a small portion of Belgium chips which are fried twice so that they are nice and crispy on the outside but nice and fluffy on the inside. There are small kiosks dotted around and the wonderful smell of hot chips being cooked. The ...Read More

Hard Rock Café Grand Place Brussels. We went to the Hard Rock café in Brussels to celebrate our friend’s wedding anniversary. Never having set foot in one I had no idea of what to expect and I must admit although it was quite noisy I actually thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant.Hard Rock café Grand Place Brussels only opened its doors in 2012 and when we visited it was heaving with people. We had called in during the morning to make a reservation for 8PM only to be told that they do not take reservations but will do so from the hotel. Returning to the hotel not too far away to drop off some purchases we asked them to make a reservation for us. So we were booked ...Read More

Attraction | "The heart of the city."

Grand Place (Grote Markt) Photo, Brussels, Belgium

The Grand Place Brussels is the heart of the city. It is lively and vibrant with many interesting features in the surrounding buildings. The large square is surrounded by beautiful and architecturally pretty gothic looking buildings. It has been designated as a UNESCO world heritage site. It is very pleasing on the eye and is a focal point that is always heaving with people. The area has been used since around the 10th century but the buildings were built much later chiefly as a market and indoor markets so the duke could keep an eye on the taxes that were to be paid from the traders. To the North side there is the town hall and on the South Side the Kings building. The rest of the square...Read More

Attraction | "This isn't any old iron!"

The Atomium is for Brussels what the Eiffel tower is for Paris or the London Eye for London. It is a city land mark that was built originally for the Great Expo of 1958. It was originally thought that it would only last until the end of the exposition but was so popular with the Belgians it became a tourist attraction. It was designed by Andre Waterkeyn, Andre and Jean Polak and is supposed to represent an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. It is a super construction consisting of nine balls connected to each other by arms that act as stairways or lift shafts or elevators run through these arms taking the visitor from one orb to another made out of iron and aluminium with glass in th...Read More

Attraction | "The Manneken Pis takes the piss!"

I heard about the tiny statue of the Manneken Pis when I was a child and always thought like most people I would go to see it when I visited Brussels. I recently spent a weekend in Brussels and on the first day went to see this world famous statue. What I was not expecting to find was something so small and to be quite honest it felt very underwhelming. It is only approximately 2 foot high and is situated on the corner of a street in the capital city of Brussels. You can find the statue on the corner of Rue de l’Etuve and Rue du Chene. It is quite easy to find and passing the town hall in the Grand Place after crossing one set of traffic lights and continuing on the same road you can not fa...Read More
