Cranfield beach is in Co. Down - a very nice setting as it is at the entrance to Carlingford Lough and the Mountains of Mourne are the backdrop. We spent a couple of hours here one sunny, Sunday afternoon. The beach was very busy during our visit - but it was an extremely hot day. There is a caravan park behind the beach, so I guess a lot of people probably come here to camp and enjoy the great outdoors when the weather is nice. There is a car park, it is free to park, but you need to get there early to be sure of a space. We arrived after lunch and had to wait about half an hour to be able to park. The beach itself is not the most beautiful beach in the world. Do not come h...Read More

Gortin Glen is a forest park 6 miles outside the town of Omagh in Co. Tyrone. It is open every day between 10am and dusk. The charge is supposed to be £3 for cars, or if you walk in and don't use your car it is £1 for adults and 50 pence for children. There was no-one there to take any money though during our visit, so it cost nothing. We found plenty of parking spaces and a nice little picnic area. There were spaces where you could have a BBQ and toilets. There is also an information board, with details of all the hikes and trails through the forest. It is a lovely setting - very leafy and green, right in the Sperrin Mountains with coniferous woodland. The whole place was...Read More

One of the newest attractions in Belfast is the SS Nomadic, arguably the last true link to the Titanic and the White Star Line. The ship is docked in the Titanic Quarter - the Titanic Visitor Centre is just behind. When we were there, the ship had only been open to visitors for a couple of weeks. Opening times are between 10am and 5pm every day. It costs £8.50 for adults, £5.00 for children and £6.50 for students and old age pensioners. On the website, they recommended that you buy tickets in advance. Whilst this is definitely the case for the Titanic Centre, I didn't think it was necessary for Nomadic. We bought our tickets a couple of weeks in advance, but during our visit, the ship had only ...Read More

We had a couple of hours spare before a flight from Belfast International Airport, so found this place was only 10 minutes drive away and decided to see what it was like. What a great find - a beautiful place, lovely walks and plenty of interesting things to see and do.There was lots of free car-parking, we strolled alongside a little canal with lots of boats "parked" up. The whole area was leafy, green and lush. Beside the canal at various points are different pieces of outdoor gym equipment - we had great fun trying these out - go for a walk and keep fit too!Eventually we reached the castle itself. There are only ruins now though, but it is a lovely ruin. The castle was ...Read More

We found this restaurant in Belfast while we were browsing the internet. It looked reasonable, prices seemed fine and the location was good, so we booked a table for our group of 5.We dined there early (6.00pm) on a Monday evening. Reservations are definitely not required at this time or this day - we were the only people in the restaurant and had our pick of the tables. This was not a problem for us at all, we did not find a lack of atmosphere in the restaurant - actually it was calm, relaxed and chilled which suited us perfectly. The location of 21 Social is great. It is close to the city centre, but actually right in the heart of the Cathedral Quarter. We walked from the...Read More
