Cardiff castle is pretty much in the city centre and is in fact very close to the Millennium Stadium, From inside the castle keep you get a very good view of the stadium. If you live in Cardiff and take proof you can get a 'key to the castle' for a fiver which is a lovely idea I think. For those of us who are only visitors from another country the charges are a bit higher. :Adult: £11.00 Child (5-16 years*): £8.50 Senior/Student: £9.50 Family 2 Adult/2 Child: £35.00 Family 2 Adult/3 Child: £42.00. A premium ticket will also get a guided tour of additional castle apartments. We decided to go for the Essential ticket and this allowed us to see so...Read More

Skomer Island

Attraction | "Visit Puffins on Skomar"

Skomer Island Photo, Pembrokeshire, Wales
Quote:
We wanted to visit this island to see puffins in the wild and this is one of the few places you can do this in the UK. You can only get here by a small boat from Martins' Haven and the shortest amount of time you can spend on the island is three hours but you can be there all day if you choose. You can also stay in the pretty basic accommodation on the island too if you book in advance. As you arrive on Skomar you are faced with some steep steps up the cliff side. Once you reach the top one of the volunteer naturalists gives you a bit of a quick guide to the island. Skomar it is not that large but it takes a surprising time to actually walk around the entire island. We h...Read More

Tintern Abbey

Attraction | "A beautiful old Ruin"

Tintern Abbey Photo, Cardiff, Wales
Quote:
Tintern Abbey was the first Cistercian abbey in Wales and it dates from 1131 but the Abbey actually took about four hundred years to finish. This was quite a complex, a bit like a small community with a Cistercian abbey, farm, hospital and accommodation for the monks who lived and worked there. Sadly Henry VIII 's destructive official took it over in 1536 and destroyed most of it. Despite the fact that it is a ruin today it is still awe inspiring in its beauty and sheer size. There is a car park which you have to pay for but it is really busy at times so can get very full. We parked in an overflow car park for the same price.Strangely although the car parks were fu...Read More

This was pretty obviously an older hotel and apart from the lobby and entrance area it was badly in need of an upgrade. The Reception area was large and open with a desk near the back. In this same area was a coffee shop, comfortable seats set in small groups around the area. This was the only place where wifi was free in the hotel. The car park was a short walk from the hotel entrance and is shared with the sport complex which meant we got wet when getting from the car to the hotel. You have to pay for parking too and get a ticket authorised before checking out.The young lady at reception was lovely, friendly and helpful and gave me our key cards. She informed me th...Read More

Tangiers Grange B&BHaverford WestSouth WalesThis B&B is not far from the little airport at Haverford West and right on the main A40 road to Fishguard. There is only one room at present but they have plans for expansion.WELCOMEThere is parking in the front of the B&B and when we arrived the owner welcomed and took us up to the room. We were told we could use the room downstairs and that was where breakfast would be served. We were given a choice of when to have breakfast and asked to drop the completed menu in by 9 pm each evening. The owner was so lovely and chatted to us about our plans while staying there. She suggested where we might find...Read More
