Llandudno Pier

Attraction | "All the fun of the pier"

Opened in 1877, Llandudno Pier reflects the Victorian character of the seaside town. It retains some of its former elegance with its wrought iron latticework and wooden decking finish. As we strolled along, we enjoyed lovely views of the bay and the Great and Little Orme. There are plenty of benches along the way so you can pause a while to watch the speed boats on the water, or the soaring gulls. The atmosphere has all the tackiness you would expect of an old, British seaside resort but it is tacky in a charming way. For me, the seaside would not be the same without the heavenly aroma of candy floss and hot dog stalls, kiosks selling gaudy coloured rock and ornaments made from shell...Read More

Fish Tram Chips Restuarant Llandudno

Restaurant | "Tasty Seaside Fish & Chips"

Usually I can take or leave fish and chips, but they are an absolute must when you are at the seaside. I am extremely fussy, however, and it takes a lot to impress me where this particular dish is concerned.Fish Tram Chips is a family-run establishment which won an achievement award in the National Fish and Chip Shop of the Year competition. This sounded promising, so we decided to have our tea there after a busy day in Snowdonia. Not wanting to risk being dive-bombed by greedy seagulls, we decided to eat inside rather than have a takeaway.I was impressed to see that there is a good choice of fish on the menu. A lot of fish and chip shops that I have frequented only seem to...Read More

Great Orme Tramway

Attraction | "The Great Orme by Tram"

Lured by the prospect of spectacular views from the top of the Great Orme, we decided to travel up on the tramway, which is Britain’s only cable-hauled tramway still in existence on public roads. We paid £20 for a family ticket (Adult tickets cost £6, children’s tickets cost £4.20) and as the trams run every 20 minutes, we did not have a long wait for our transport. There is a coffee shop conveniently situated at the ticket kiosk, so you can grab a drink while you wait, if you wish. Once on board, our tram made its way up the hill and we were treated to some lovely views of the coast, as well as passing some picturesque cottages with colourful gardens. The journey is quite sedate. If ...Read More

Hotel | "A Charming Holiday Cottage in North Wales"

This cottage is approximately five minutes’ drive from Llandudno and sleeps six people. We booked via Holidaylettings.co.uk and paid £595 for a week in August. In addition we had to provide a £100 returnable damage deposit.Mark Harvey, the owner of the property, met us on our arrival and showed us around. He was welcoming and helpful. The cottage was spotlessly clean, spacious and bright. Hengoed is a delightful place to stay. The décor is stylish yet cosy with a restful ambience. I liked the pictures of waves and sunsets on the walls and the attention to little details which made the cottage extra welcoming, such as a vase of fresh flowers in the dining room, scented can...Read More

Gorge scrambling is an outdoor activity which involves scrambling up rocky, mountain streams, sliding down waterfalls and plunging into pools. We pre-booked online with Llandudno Adventures a few days before and were sent a medical questionnaire to complete and return. On the morning of our activity, we met our instructor, Andy, at the car park of the Groes Inn pub, approximately 4 miles from Llandudno, and we drove in convoy to Afon Ddu gorge in the Conwy valley, a 10 minute journey.Once at the gorge, we were provided with wet suits and life jackets and were expected to change into them in the car park area. Better changing facilities would have been a big improvement. Although you co...Read More

Restaurant | "Delicious Italian Food"

We were looking for a restaurant with an informal, relaxed atmosphere, serving tasty food. Mamma Rosa is a family run Italian restaurant near the centre of Llandudno. We had no problems parking directly outside. It was a Friday evening and the restaurant very quickly became busy, so we were glad we had booked in advance. The restaurant has a cosy, unpretentious feel to it and the décor is homely but attractive, with lots of pretty mobiles and decorative hearts hanging up, fairy lights twinkling in the windows and interesting artwork on the walls. There was a painting of a beach at sunset, which looked quite striking, creating a calm ambience and reminding you that you are at the seaside...Read More
