Situated on Buckingham Palace Road (I think you can guess what else is near here), the Queen's Gallery can be visited separately or in conjunction with a visit to the Royal Mews, both with or without visiting Buckingham Palace also. I did the former as there was a particular exhibition that I was interested in seeing. Obviously timings and individual experiences will vary depending on the exhibition on at the time. I went to see In Fine Style: The Art of Tudor and Stuart Fashion which was on for five months in total. The Queen's Gallery is run by the Royal Collection Trust.I booked online and the cost was £9.50 plus booking fee of £1.25. I guess this could be avoided if yo...Read More

I had a black tie evening function to attend in this four star hotel, and we managed to get a good deal to stay here too. This was booked through the organisers of the function, who no doubt got a good deal by booking early and as a group. The hotel is based just a few minutes from Kensington High Street, the hotel is in a great location for a short break in London, being just a few minutes from High Street Kensington tube station it is also close the Earls Court and Olympia exhibition halls. Hotel facilities include a number of restaurants including a coffee shop/internet café. Wi-fi is in the hotel but not free. In the lobby, alongside the concierge service, is a currency exchange des...Read More

Open Daily: 10am to 5pm (Fridays until 8.30pm). Admission: FREENearest Tubes: Holborn (Central & Piccadilly Line), Tottenham Court Road (Central and Northern Line), Goodge Street (Northern Line) and Russell Square (Piccadilly Line). There are about twenty different bus routes that come through the roads neighbouring the museum, where you will also find cycle racks and ‘Boris Bikes’. The Times newspaper recently claimed this was the second best museum in the world (after the Smithsonian in Washington, USA) and whist I have not visited all the museums on the list (or even all the museums in London, I do think this museum gives many of them a run for their money. But,...Read More

Prior to a recent holiday, due to circumstances beyond my control, my travel plans had to be changed at the last minute. Therefore a few days before travel I was looking for hotels by Gatwick airport. After searching I was originally going to book the Holiday Inn, before discovering a better deal at the Hilton. In the end I paid £85 plus credit card booking fee, which I didn’t think was too bad, considering that I was booking only a few days prior to travel. This got me a double room for one night, without breakfast. One other advantage of the hotel is location, as it is walking distance (via car park and footbridge) to the hotel from the South terminal and railway station. It took me 6...Read More

A few weeks ago I got the opportunity to climb the O2. The O2 arena is based in North Greenwich and can best be accessed by the Jubilee line on the tube network. ‘Base camp’ is just to the left of the main entrance and booking is recommended. It costs £25 midweek daytime, and £30 in the evenings and at weekends and the whole experience takes 90 minutes including instruction video and suiting up. It is recommended to use their climbing boots (no extra charge) and climbing suit, unless the weather is really hot. It can be windy at the top. The suit is massive and one size fits all, but the harness makes everything go to the correct places! You are expected to climb un-aided with a harness, and ass...Read More
