The Green Man pub in the little Essex hamlet of Toot Hill (between Ongar and Epping) is very much worth a visit if you are in the area. We arrived here on foot during a country walk (it took us just over an hour from Ongar), but otherwise the only way to arrive is by car and parking is limited. The pub is popular with walkers and mountain bikers as well as golfers from the nearby golf course. I understand from my friend that they do really good meals here. The Riverside Inn is a pub restaurant with rooms. I have not stayed here but came and ate here and attended their popular Wednesday Quiz night. The pub is situated just a few minutes from the main town centre and rail station. Because of this, there is no free parking, so I recommend using the car park opposite (£1 per hour, £3.50 for over three hours). It is an old coaching inn and mill and although obviously an old building, it has been looked after and they have endeavoured to make it accessible and comfortable (and in my opinion have succeeded).
