A June 2013 trip to Nashville by Wildcat Dianne

Quote: My friends Pam and Laura and I spent five days in Nashville, Tennessee for the HOSA National Leadership Conference and enjoyed the hospitality of the Gaylord Opryland Resort and its restaurants along with some of the city's sites. Here is the rub of the trip!

Restaurant | "Burgers and Baseball for Dinner? You betcha!"

Quote:
There were a couple of nights at our hotel in Nashville when I was dining alone because of the roommates having to go to competitions and I didn't or I was really hungry and wanted an early dinner and to catch up on baseball scores. Since our hotel room didn't get MLB Network, I was thrilled when on one of my many walks around the Gaylord Opryland Resort that The Fuse Sports Bar and Grill had MLB Network and a menu that was reasonably priced. "Now we're cooking with peanut oil!" as Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty says. I ate dinner at the Fuse on my first night in Nashville, and I had a turkey mushroom Swiss burger with fries. The Fuse's menu is mostly finger foods and other...Read More

Saturday Morning In The Music City

Story/Tip

Quote:
Finishing in second place in the Health Occupations Student Association Healthcare Issues State Exam in April earned me an all expenses paid trip to the National HOSA Conference in Nashville, Tennessee at the end of June. Most of the time was spent at the Gaylord Opryland Resort competing in my event, sitting by the pool, reading, and relaxing before I had to return home to Florida and begin a six-week externship in order to graduate from Pensacola State College's Medical Assisting program. But I was getting bored sitting by the pool and getting chlorine in my eyes or sunburned, and when our chaperone, Carol, and our very kind bus driver John offered to take us to Nashville to tour ar...Read More

Restaurant | "Rock and Roll for Lunch in a Honky Tonk Town"

Quote:
Our HOSA group had a few hours to kill the Saturday morning we were in Nashville, and our bus driver John and our chaperone Carol were most generous with taking us on our bus to downtown Nashville. Everybody had different itineraries during our short visit (Country Music Hall of Fame, shopping, Johnny Cash Museum, walking around, etc.). Carol let us go at the Hampton Inn with the warning to be back at the bus by 2:15 because we had one last awards ceremony to go to before leaving Nashville for home the next morning. I hung out with Carol walking with her while we perused the many little shops in downtown Nashville, and in the meantime we were looking for a place for us to have lunch. ...Read More

Findley's Irish Pub

Restaurant | "A Taste of Ireland in Nashville."

Quote:
After the disaster of dinner at the Jack Daniel's restaurant in Gaylord Opryland Resort, Pam, Laura, and I were happy that Findlay's Irish Pub, which was our first choice for dinner the night before, was open for business after being closed the night before. We had another awards ceremony to go to that night, and we were once again looking for a restaurant that was open early and had good food, service, and reasonable prices. Findlay's fit that bill to the tee for us.Pam, Laura, and I arrived at Findlay's shortly before 5, its opening time, and waited for the doors to open. Once the doors opened, the host got us seated immediately and our waitress, a nice woman named Danielle, was ri...Read More

Attraction | "You Don't Know Jack about Service!"

Quote:
Gaylord Opryland Resorts has several restaurants to choose from. A lot of them were expensive and we HOSA members were on a tight food budget for the entire trip. On many of our adventures through the hotel, we noticed the Jack Daniel's Restaurant, and Pam wanted to try it out for dinner our second night in town. I texted Mom about our dinner plans, and she said Jack Daniel's wasn't a good idea since she had gone to one in another city and it wasn't good at all, but I said it might be different in Nashville. You know what they say about "mother knows best!?" I should have listened to Mom!Pam, Laura, and I had an awards ceremony to go to that night we went to Jack Daniel's and we we...Read More

After finishing in second place in the Healthcare Issues Exam at the HOSA (Health Occupations Student Association) Florida State Conference, I was happy to find out I had qualified for the HOSA National Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. YIPPEE KI-AYE! A rock and roll girl in the capital of country music. But the good thing was the trip to Nashville like the State Conference in Orlando was all expenses paid and we would be staying at the Gaylord Opryland Resort and getting a nice $216 food voucher courtesy of the Pensacola State College HOSA conference. About an hour outside of Nashville, our bus driver John was generous to stop at a Walmart so we could stretch our small stipends by...Read More
