Quote: During our 10-day visit to Ireland, we stayed in three Dublin hotels, a B&B in the small town of Kinnitty while attending a wedding, and a hotel in the town of Bunratty as part of a Railtours Ireland 2-day excursion. Here is a summary of our experiences...

We really liked the Academy Plaza Hotel. We did three stays there during our 10 days in Ireland. Best of all, our final stay was free thanks to our Best Western points. Yay! The hotel is located just off O'Connell Street, one of the main tourist streets in Dublin. We had no problem getting there from the airport because the Airlink 747 airport bus stops in front of the hotel. This was not the only transportation convenience, however. The Hop-on Hop-off tour bus route begins in front of the hotel. The public buses make stops there as well. Another transportation option is the LUAS tram located on Abbey Street three blocks away. We used the tram several times as an inexpensive option to get ...Read More

Hotel | "Nice But There are Better Options for Tourists"

In order to boost our Hilton points, we planned to stay two nights at the Hilton Dublin. Our room was spacious and what we would expect of a Hilton Hotel. They even provided wash clothes - which is not always the case at European hotels. My wife was happy with the well-equipped fitness center. There was no free in-room Wi-Fi. You had to go to the lobby for this. The Hilton Dublin is a nice hotel. It was significantly more expensive than the Academy Plaza Hotel but we soon realized this did not make it better. The hotel is located in a business and residential area of the city. There are not many tourist attractions in walking distance. There is a LUAS tram stop in front of the hotel but the...Read More

We planned to stay at an airport hotel for our final night in Ireland. The Hilton Dublin Airport hotel was our choice because we wanted to accumulate more Hilton points. We used the return trip leg of the round-trip tickets we bought for the Airlink 747 bus to get from our downtown accommodation at the Academy Plaza Hotel out to the airport. We exited the bus at the Arrivals section of the airport and then found our way to Zone 14 to wait for the complimentary shuttle that the Hilton Dublin Airport hotel provides. Since Zone 14 is a distance from the rest of the zones, I recommend giving yourself at least 15 minutes to walk there from the main terminal in case you have trouble finding it like we did. ...Read More

The reason for our trip to Ireland was to attend the wedding of my wife’s former co-worker. The wedding took place in a church in the small town of Kinnitty. The reception took place in nearby Kinnitty Castle. We had hoped to stay overnight in the castle as some of the other wedding guests did but there were no vacancies at the time we tried to book. Instead, the bride recommended Corrigan's Castle View Bed & Breakfast which is just across the road from the castle’s driveway. The train ride from Dublin’s Heuston Station to the town of Tullamore was just under an hour. We took a taxi (€30 – €35) from there along winding rural roads to Corrigan's Castle View Bed & Breakfast....Read More

Hotel | "Enjoyed Our Stay"

Our stay at the Bunratty Castle Hotel was included in the 2-Day Bunratty Castle Medieval Banquet & Cliffs of Moher excursion we did with Railtours Ireland. Since my wife and I were the only clients doing the 2-day version of this excursion, there was no need to use a shuttle bus or motorcoach to get us to the hotel. Instead, a Railtours representative picked us up from the Galway train station in a very nice Mercedes Benz and chauffeured us with class an hour and half to the hotel. We showed our Railtours vouchers to the hotel receptionist and she promptly checked us in. Bunratty Castle Hotel is a very nice modern hotel. We had a spacious room at the end of a wing that smelled as if it...Read More
