We spent a sunny Saturday afternoon at Wray Castle - the setting is just glorious, the views around the castle are to die for.Wray Castle is owned and run by the National Trust, so if you are a member of that organisation, there is no entrance fee. Otherwise I think it was around £7 for adults. This is not like a typical National Trust property, in fact it is unlike any I have visited before. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here though, it is a great place to bring children. There is nothing in this house that they are not allowed to touch, no nook or cranny that is forbidden to them and it is just ripe for exploring. The building from the outside is very interesting, ornat...Read More

Cycling on the Shores of Lake Windermere

We spent a wonderful, sunny Saturday cycling around the shores of Lake Windermere. It was about 10 miles round trip on traffic-free bridleway paths and all along, we were treated to the most stunning views across the lake.We actually wanted to start our cycle ride from a little place called Harrow Slack. This would have meant quite a long drive around the lake, or you can take the car ferry. We decided to do this - the ferry is quite small and only holds about 10 cars, but it runs back and forwards across the lake all day. We just missed one, but you only have to wait about 20 minutes. The cost for our car was £4.30. On the other side of the lake, we turned right and hea...Read More

We often spend a Sunday afternoon at Tatton Park, near Knutsford in Cheshire. It is a wonderful estate with an old mansion house, acres of gardens and grounds you can walk in, deer everywhere, a fabulous adventure playground and even a farm. They also have lots of events taking place throughout the year, we came to the annual Medieval Fayre. It costs £5 to park your car on the estate, there was a further charge of £7 for adults and £4.50 for children to enter the Medieval Fayre area. The Tatton Park estate is huge - the fayre was in one of its far corners, in the grounds of the Old Hall.We were amazed as we approached - lots of colourful tents and hundreds of people all dress...Read More

Our last trip to Knowsley Safari Park had been about 7 years ago when our son was a toddler. We decided it was time for a return trip, so spent a Saturday afternoon there recently. The ticket prices are very expensive - we bought them online in advance, which saved us about £5.00 in total, however it still cost almost £40 for 2 adults and 1 child. You can find other discount vouchers around which give better reductions - look out for these and use them if you can. The park is open every day between 10 am and 5 pm - the last entrance is at 4. We arrived at 1.30 and stayed until closing time - this was enough for us to see and do everything.Originally, Knowsley was where the E...Read More

Sea Life Manchester

Sea Life Manchester is a brand new attraction, having been opened for just a few weeks, so we decided to pay it a visit. We have Merlin annual passes (this place is part of that group), so wanted to pack a visit in before they expire in September. It is at the Trafford Centre shopping centre, so a really convenient location with lots of parking. We were hopeful of a great day out, especially because there has been much hype and publicity in the lead up to the opening. It is open every day between 10am and 7pm - we saw at the weekends long queues outside, so I think, if you wanted to visit at peak times, prebooking online would be a good idea. Ticket prices are £16.20 for adult...Read More
