We first visited Chessington World of Adventures about 15 years ago. We recently returned on a Bank Holiday weekend with our 9 year old son and found it has changed a lot and had some major updating. It is now termed a "resort" - there is a theme park, a zoo and it has its own safari themed hotel. Lots of people come for a day trip, we thought it was perfect for a short break, that way, you could fit much more in and enjoy the experience in a more leisurely and enjoyable way.Chessington Resort is owned by Merlin Entertainments. They own a lot of other theme parks and attractions in the UK including the London Eye, Warwick Castle and Madame Tussauds. We bought their annual Merlin passe...Read More

Story/Tip

* The resort is in Surrey - about 15 miles from central London. It is very easy to find, just a few minutes off the A3 in Surrey. Parking is free of charge.* Opening times vary according to the season. The website lists all times and dates. Get there early though, if you are ready to go the moment the park opens, queuing times will be better. The first couple of hours of the day are the best time to visit the new attractions, before the queues really start to build up. If you stay at the Holiday Inn hotel on the resort, you can enter the park 30 minutes before general opening times. Not all rides are open though, but some are available to ride before the general public....Read More

We stayed two nights at this hotel. It is in the grounds of Chessington World of Adventures, so if you are visiting the theme park, you can't get a more convenient place to stay. We arrived on a Saturday lunch-time, the car park was completely full, so we had to leave our car in the loading bay of the hotel - be aware if you are arriving at a busy time, parking could be an issue. The hotel is lovely - it has a safari theme throughout, which really appeals to adults and children alike. Check-in for us was very efficient, the staff were helpful and friendly. There are 9 African Adventure family rooms, decorated in all things safari and apparently have a canvas sleeping area for...Read More

Attraction | "The Zoo at Chessington World of Adventures"

The zoo and the original owner's menagerie of animals started the whole theme park here. Now it has lots of rare animals and is a great place to visit. It was actually my favourite part of the whole resort. You can view on their website a list of feeding times for the animals and also they have lots of talks, it is quite interesting to try and plan your visit around at least some of these. We started by walking around the Trail of the Kings. This is a chance to see some rare but also dangerous animals. They have glass areas and you do get to see them very well. There are gorillas, tigers, lions, leopards and binturong. We walked through the trail, stopping to look at these magnificen...Read More

Attraction | "Chessington World of Adventures - the Rides"

Chessington World of Adventures, like most theme parks these days, is split into a series of "lands" all of which are themed differently and all of which have their own rides. We started off in Market Square. The Safari Skyway is in this area. It is an elevated ride that takes you around part of the park. It is a good way to get your bearings but you also get great views of the zoo area. If you time it correctly, you might see the big cats being fed. You also get some lovely views of the sea-lion area. Hocus Pocus Hall is close-by. This was the original old hall which they have now turned into a 4D experience. You are given 3D glasses as you enter, watch a little pre-show then walk ...Read More
