SAF is a vegan and raw food restaurant in Kensington, West London, their name stands for Simple, Authentic Food. I had a Groupon deal for £12.50 for a three course meal, which was a saving of 50%. Checking prices on the website, this seems about right. My experience of booking the table was swift, friendly and polite. Upon arrival, we went up to the first floor of the Whole Foods Market on Kensington High Street, where the floor was laid out like a posh food court. We went to the Saf area where we were seated and presented with menus and tap water. We ordered cocktails first – I had a grape mojito and my friend a Gin-ger mule. Both were delicious and the cocktail menu was original and...Read More

Sagar Vegetarian Restaurant

Restaurant | "Super Sagar"

I visited Sagar, a South Indian vegetarian restaurant, in Percy St (close to Tottenham Court Road) one Sunday lunchtime. They also have a large vegan menu as well as a good understanding of dishes that may be unsuitable for nut allergy sufferers or those with gluten intolerance, or prefer to avoid garlic or onion. To start I had Kancheepuram Idli, (£5.45) which were mildly spiced lentil and potato dumplings with assorted dips. They would have been quite dry without the dips, and were quite filling. The spicy Rasam soup (£3.50) was well received as was the Potato Bonda (£3.65). I had heard good things about the dosas here (loosely wrapped pancakes type dishes) so selected the...Read More

Apres London

Restaurant | "Apres London for Apres Work"

Quote:
Après is an attractive bar near Selfridges in the heart of Central London. The occasion of my visit was for an author event in the basement bar one Tuesday evening. When I arrived I walked straight through into the main bar. It is not large, but has a number of dark wooden tables with smart leather seats, and the pillars are covered in a mock croc type fabric. The place looks smart and classy, if a little too cramped to be intimate. The basement bar can be accessed either as you come in or by taking the stairs at the back of the bar in the corner. The basement bar is more spacious, but doesn’t benefit from the natural light you get upstairs. Décor is similar, but with mor...Read More

Giraffe

Restaurant | "No Giraffe on this menu"

Quote:
Before a performance at the nearby National Theatre, my friend and I were looking for somewhere quick to grab a bite to eat and a drink. Giraffe (one of a chain of ‘global’ food restaurants) is situated just below the Royal Festival Hall which is just a five minute walk from the National Theatre. We inquired, as we entered, if they had a table for two. The lady said they didn’t but we could have seats at the bar where we could still eat. The bar area was large and spacious so we decided to go for it, as we didn’t want to waste time. We were seated by another member of staff and one of the bar staff presented us each with a menu. We both ordered a Mango Daiquiri to drink (it was happy...Read More

Restaurant | "Tasty Tidbits atTibits"

Quote:
Tibits in Heddon Street is the London branch or a Swiss vegetarian ‘fast-food’ restaurant. Heddon Street is a situated down a pedestrianized area off of Regent St. Keep your eyes peeled on the left side of the street as you walk up from Piccadilly Circus towards Oxford Circus. You can’t make reservations here, unless it is for parties of eight or more, and when I visited this was the case and we were seated downstairs. There did seem to be spaces on the ground floor, for those that are popping in ad hoc. As Tibits is a buffet restaurant, eating here can be quick, as all food is already prepared (and kept fresh – you can see the staff regularly replenishing the dishes). Whilst Tibits c...Read More
