I recently went to Istanbul on a mini-break organised by a multi-activity group that I am a member of. The hotel was included in my three night deal along with flights and transfers. However according to the board behind the reception a standard double room is approx TL150 (Turkish Lira), which is about £57.LOCATIONThe hotel is located on Harikzedeler Street on the corner of a quiet junction in the Bazaar district and a few minutes walk from Istanbul University. The streets are mostly hotels, restaurants and a few little shops. It is a few minutes walk to the Laleli tram stop on the T1 line, ten minutes walk to the Grand Bazaar and 20 minutes to Sultanhmet and the main attr...Read More

Restaurant | "More Konvenient than Klas"

The Klas restaurant is conveniently situated just around the corner from our hotel (the Klas hotel). I am not sure if they are affiliated as they have separate entrances, and the hotel does not seem to publicise the restaurant. On our first night in Istanbul, we wanted to eat locally rather than head off into the central area as we were tired and didn't get to the hotel until 6pm. One of our group had scouted around earlier and checked the place out. As we were a party of ten they offered us free tea and coffee and fruit for dessert and 10% discount. Although it was about 8.30pm when we arrived (there had been a lot of faffing and we had been waylaid by margaritas in the hotel bar) the...Read More

Tashan Arkat is a themed restaurant, bar and nightclub aimed at tourists in Istanbul and is in an amazing situation. Originally it was a Byzantine water cistern (storage area) that is 800 years old before the Ottomans dried it out and used it as a type of inn for guests and later barracks for soldiers. Nowadays it is underground in the 'Old Bazaar' (which is nothing special) and there is a courtyard café here, which must be lovely in the summer. The location is quite hidden and not easy to find if you don't know where you are going, but a number of our party had stumbled in it by accident whilst wandering around the area near our hotel and thought it might e fun for the Saturday night. It is a mi...Read More

Restaurant | "The Sultan in Sultanahmet"

After a long day of sightseeing in central Istanbul, we stopped for a very late lunch at 4pm. I was so hungry I didn’t care where we went and was led by one of our party straight to the Sultan Pub, which was just across from the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque and almost next to the Sultanahmet tram stop. I am guessing she spotted it when we had been here earlier. The restaurant is not really a pub in the conventional British sense, although it does have a bar. It is more an informal restaurant with table service serving a mix of traditional Turkish food as well as European food. The pub is simply furnished with wooden tables and chairs (with cushions!) and European style retro adverts on the wa...Read More

Whilst visiting Istanbul recently, one of our party recommended this restaurant which she had discovered on a previous visit. We visited it during the day at first, just for a drink after visiting the Hagia Sophia. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Blue Mosque, away from the busy section, to a quiet area with some top end hotels. Seven Hills is actually a hotel, and you gather lift to the top floor and then walk up a flight of stairs where the large widows in the restaurant give you amazing views of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. In the other direction is the river. There is a roof garden and diners can climb another flight of stairs to see the views in the open air, which must be one of the...Read More
