Amish Acres Historic Farm & Heritage Resort was opened to the public in 1970. The property and surrounding 80 acres dates back to 1873 when an Amish man by the name of Christian Stahly acquired this land for the purpose of building a house and barn for his son Moses. The main house was built in 1893, after Moses Stahly's father-in-law Noah Nissley bought the homestead. It was later transferred to his son-in-law Manassas Kuhns who retained ownership and operation until his death, when it was then sold at auction in 1968.Four local businessmen led by Richard Pletcher formed "Amish Acres, Inc." and successfully bid on and bought the farm at that 1968 auction. Amish Acres welcomed the...Read More

The Farm Tour is a 45 minute guided walking tour of Stahly--Nissley--Kuhns Farm that dates back to 1873 and the original family that settled here. Since that time, the original farm has had several additions to include extra rooms added to the main house, barns and outbuildings. Today, it is the only Amish farm that is on the National Register of Historic Places (1990).The tour begins with a brief stop in the orchard where fruit was grown and bee hives kept. As with all working farms, land and resources are used in a conservative manner so as to provide food for the residents and animals raised on the farm. We also viewed the small garden area, where the woman of the house grew herbs a...Read More

This is the other guided tour available during a visit to Amish Acres Historic Farm and Heritage Resort. The 30 minute tour takes visitors on a circle loop around the property, passing by a number of historic Amish buildings that have been brought here to preserve the history and heritage of the Amish people of this area.Included on the "ride-by" tour are the broom shop, the ice house, the Beer Maple Sugar Camp, a blacksmith shop and several houses. The one stop the tour makes is at the German schoolhouse located at the far corner of the property. Built in the 1880's, it is one of the oldest Amish schoolhouses in the Nappanee area and was acquired by Amish Acres in 2004 for r...Read More

The Round Barn Theatre is home to "Plain and Fancy" which is in its 27th season on the Joseph Stein Stage at Amish Acres. First appearing on Broadway in 1955, "Plain and Fancy" is a musical comedy telling the story of Amish life in rural Pennsylvania. As NW Indiana's premier repertory theatre, they also play host to a number of high quality productions of Broadway and off Broadway plays and musicals. During my recent visit, I was fortunate to take in "Church Basement Ladies 2: A Second Helping".A bit about this unique playhouse venue. It is an actual round Amish barn that was originally built in 1911. In the early 1990's local Amish men dismantled the barn piece by piece ...Read More

Threshers Dinner is served daily (when in season) in the Restaurant Barn at Amish Acres Historic Farm and Heritage Resort. It was such a bountiful assortment of menu items, all included in the $18.95 per person price, that I dined there twice during my two days at Amish Acres. Considering it includes everything from soup to dessert, plus beverage, it would be difficult to find a better dining value.Fashioned after a typical Amish family meal, the all-you-can- eat meal is served family style with each table/group having a choice of two meat items from a selection that includes ham, broasted chicken and roast beef. With your dinner meats selected, the meal begins with homemade Amish bread...Read More

Having read many reviews on this hotel on Trip Advisor, I was admittedly a bit concerned. That said, I believe some people cannot be pleased regardless of the experience provided or price paid. I found my one night stay at the Inn at Amish Acres to be comfortable, clean and quiet. Perhaps it was because I was traveling in the early spring shoulder season, or that I am rather easy to please, but regardless of the reason I would stay here again without hesitation. With theatre tickets for 8:00pm, my Saturday evening arrival and check-in went smoothly and without delay. I was able to get checked in and take my things to my room before heading back out for supper and the show. The front des...Read More
