Once again we are picked up at our hotel at 7:30 in the morning. This time to go to Xcaret (and after hearing very many pronunciations I have decided on ish-car-ret). It was almost a couple of hours to get there, most of which I think I spent sleeping. We were on a rather large charter bus, so at least it was pretty comfy. When we got close we got the most confusing directions of the entire trip. Instead of saying everything in spanish and then english, he would do half the sentence in spanish, then switch to english, then switch back to spanish and finish the sentence, then go back to english to finish the sentence. It was very difficult to follow. But as soon as we got to the park we just took off o...Read More

Tulum Xtreme!

So Day 3 beings at 6:30 am. Ridiculous right? I know! Anyway, we catch our van to Tulum Xtreme and travel to two other hotels to pick up others. After about a half hour ride we pull into a gas station and are divided into two other vans. This is starting to sound suspicious...but it wasn't.It's another hour or so before we arrive to a dirt road covered every inch in pot holes that we follow deep out into the jungle to very possibly be cut up into small pieces, buried, and never heard from again. But thankfully it's just to the Xtreme part of this tour. We start right in on the zip lines. The fifteen seconds on each line was great, the tower of stairs we had to climb at each one was not. Ok, day 2 of our trip to Mexico! We got up around 8:00, if you think that's early for vacation wait til day 3. We got ourselves ready and walked down to the ferry. It was a wonderful ride over to Isla Mujeres, about twenty minutes. It was a little confusing to just be dumped off in downtown Isla Mujeres, but we found a taxi that took us to Dolphin Discovery. There was some miscommunication and we showed up early, but they let us walk around and watch the dolphins until our program began. We actually started by snorkeling (minus the snorkel, so I'd call it...goggeling) with fish and stingrays. We were out in the open sea, but it was roped and fenced in. So not technically open, but certainl...Read More

A friend and I took a trip to Cancun Mexico and enjoyed the Caribbean, swimming with dolphins, local cuisine, flea market shopping, ziplining, and exploring ancient ruins. The following is my blog about our first day in Mexico. So we get up at the ridiculous hour of 4 am and get our shuttle to the airport. Not much to say. Took off, landed in Atlanta, took off again, landed in Cancun. But as we're landing and I'm packing up I have the realization out of nowhere that I left the battery for my camera charging in the hotel in Greensboro. I might as well have forgot my left arm. So we muddle our way through immigration and customs and find our hotel shuttle. We met a nice couple on the shuttle...Read More

Here are my tips and advice for travel to Mexico (or at least travel to the Cancun region):Transportation:1. Taxis - Before you go anywhere tell the driver where you want to go and agree upon a price. They don't use a meter, so agreeing on a price before hand will keep you from getting robbed when you arrive.2. Don't attempt to drive. There are no lines in the road and everyone just drives where they want. Seems very dangerous to me, unless you are from Mexico and know what you are doing.3. Don't be afraid of public transportation like buses. They're quick and cheap.Money:1. Have a good understanding of the exchange rate. Currentl...Read More
